The first half was actually pretty good I thought, but things fell away badly in the second. Too many mistakes and way too many penalties. It was a pretty frustrating experience, but the Force will feel like they should have won that. Perhaps a game that neither team deserved to win.

Was listening to the first half but not watching, and couldnt really tell what was going on. What i did hear at one point was, "Ripia misses out O'Connor for the third consecutive phase, they must give it to him at some point". Willie seems to have an aversion to passing to JOC (James O'Connor).

Watched the 2nd half on sky player, surprisngly good quality.

2nd Half thoughts: Force dominated for the first 20 mins and should have been ahead by a few JOC (James O'Connor) missed one to the left which he should have nailed. JOC (James O'Connor) then got over but lost control as he put the ball down, another missed oppurtunity.

The two long rangers were not really helpful for his stats, lsat year sheehan took these but because JOC (James O'Connor) nailed a couple from 50 earlier in the season they now seem to back him.

Force had a great chance after the kick but I think fairbanks went off his feet and all hope was lost. Some good mixed with some shit, Hodgson I thought was class as was Cummings.

Should have won it

The Force should've won that?

Really?

You could say the Brumbies should've won that if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot with every attacking opportunity, but their defence was pretty incredible... stupid mistakes, and bad decision making giving the ball back to the Force in attack...

Of course, I don't really mean they should've won... I think a draw was a fair outcome from that match...

That penalty leading to JOC (James O'Connor)'s attempt at goal at the siren was a joke...

Anyways, does Salvi have any purpose but to give away penalties?

I loved the fact that the Brumbies spent a whole lot of time in the second half defending their 22m... starved of the ball... finally get the ball and go on attack... so Valentine kicks it away...

The forced passing from the Brumbies was just painful to watch...

Despite obviously not looking 100%, Elsom was probably one of the best for the Brumbies... showed more commitment and intensity than what most of the Brumbies' forwards have shown this year...

And surely it's clear to see for all the coaching staff that Valentine is not an 80 minute player...

I'll give him credit that he always plays well in the first half of a match... but every game this year in the second half his passing gets worse, he's slow to the rucks, and makes dumb decisions...

If we're going to persist with Valentine starting, only play him for 40 minutes...

Yes
Sheehan should of had the shot at the end.

Too me the force clearly dominated the game but just couldn't finish.

Really nice too see david smith get slot of ball.

And cummins has become a war horse. Good on him. Can't wait too see how he develops over the next 2 years.

Go the force!!!!

The Force dominated most aspects of the game but they couldn't breach the Brumbies' defence...

The Brumbies were their own worst enemy in attack making silly errors...

Either team could've won that in the end... a draw was the only fair result in that cripple fight...

And the Force shouldn't have received that penalty at the end so JOC (James O'Connor)'s miss was some nice justice...

I wonder if the Brumbies are regretting promoting Jono Owen?

He had a disasterous game, although his scrummaging seemed to improve as the game went on... I don't know how much affect it had but Dunning was binding on his arm all night...

However, it was an odd move to swap around him and Alexander considering Owen is a TH, and he struggled at scrum time in his past couple of matches... it was obvious that a swap to his lesser position wasn't going to exactly improve things...

But Jerry Y looked solid when he came on... if Palmer isn't fit next week the Brumbies need to go with Jerry at LH and Alexander at TH...

Alexander wasn't much better at TH and kept folding in... but if Palmer isn't fit it's the best combo they have to go with...

It's amazing how much influence one player can have but the Brumbies definitely miss Palmer in the scrums... it would've been a completely different game, especially as the Force were without Fairbrother...

  • Jerry should start with Owen coming off the bench. If they're trying to teach Owen to be a LHP for next year it would be better done in Shute.

A very prescient comment, Hawko. Jerry had much better body shape scrumming against Dunning than did Jono, and he has high range dynamic capabilities around the park.

Haven't been impressed with Rea's selecting all year to be honest, but its really not the heart of the Brumbies issues.

Not sure that Rae is the only selector...

The way that joint is run I would have assumed Fagan would be head selector .

There's a lot wrong with the Brumbies this year... and the bizarre, constant rotating selections don't help...

McCabe showed in the leadup to that Speight try why he should be playing outside centre...

While his bash it up style is renowned, its mostly been from counter attack runs from fullback...

Lately he's run some beautiful angles when closer to the action...

Add the fact that he's rock solid in defence...

It really looks like the position that suits him best, and I think he could make himself a Wallaby candidate if he got some game time there...

McCabe, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), man the Brumbies can produce some quality utility backs.

Brumbies deserve credit for the defensive effort. They came off the line like their lives depended on it and constantly shut down the Force attack, which as usual is headless chook stuff followed up by a poor kick and the odd piece of individual brillance line break. In fact, the Brumbies defensive line kept coming up so quick, I was expecting some penalties for offside, but watching on TV it appeared they were coming from on side.

Pity Cam Shepard wasn't on the park, the final kick would have gone to him, Sheehan's long range efforts are shot in the dark stuff.

Really it's a game that deserves to be ridiculed as horrible, for the constant handling errors, but both teams committed themselves so physically, it's hard to be overly critical.

I also found the refereeing of the breakdown pretty inconsistent. Not biased either way, but each time he blew the whistle at the breakdown I was unsure which way the penalty would go. It had a negative impact on the game IMO.

There were a *lot* of penalties at the break down last night, to the point that it started to ruin the game as a spectacle. I have no real comment on whether they were right or not.

Back on the Force, I thought Sheehan was ordinary last night. His passing was just terrible. His combative style was good and he does the tough stuff well, but a half back needs to pass too and so many times Ripia or O'Connor were reach up or behind to catch the ball. That's just not acceptable at this level.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but why didn't Sheehan take the penalty goal at the end as he has a bigger boot?

People talk about the Tahs playing boring rugby well the Force own boring rugby. Wallabies can't win anything if Graham is involved with them.

I actually agree with that Qwerty and I think I've articulated it earlier in the year. Apart from throwing it to JOC (James O'Connor), we don't really have a game busting strategy out wide. I think we've got a very solid, workman-like pack, but we're seriously lacking in the creativity department and have done since Giteau and Mitchell left.

The Force pack is very strong. It's obviously their strength but isn't Graham a backs skills coach? It really doesn't show at all. I think they need to go back to O'Connor at 10 and tell him to stop thinking about kicking first.
