Justin Turner - where did he come from? Fast tidy pass, a bit of toe and some good support play.

Yet another young bloke getting the opportunity and making an impact - love it. Well played Force, they played the 80 and made the most of what they had.

Outmuscled at the breakdown though which is always ugly to see for Aussie teams.

Great win by the Force though I was worried at first. Some stray thoughts:

• I thought Jonkers dropped his standards observing the law crackdown. To me it was though nothing had changed from last year. The Highlanders were killing the ball all the time in the first half, but that was noticeable only because the Force had all the ball. Later you could see that the Force were just as bad. Let's see how the crackdown is working for the rest of the weekend.

• Mind you, you can't blame the Clan for the legal turnovers they created by being earlier to rucks, having more guys there, having more weight at the critical point and more momentum on the hit. They were as impressive as the Force were not in taking the ball up before oranges. It is well to use a strong guy like Cross to take the ball to the line but not when he doesn't have his mates there for him when he goes to ground – or when he loses it on contact.

• JOC (James O'Connor) – what a player he is becoming. He's one star schoolboy player I reluctantly didn't pick to be a Wallaby as it was odds on that he wouldn't be big enough, and even Super rugby looked a stretch. But isn't he a strong little bastard now? Can't he stay on his feet when it matters and wriggle out of the grip of strong players and carry on? Pity about the goal kicking. He had a Brocker.

• Young Justin Turner is looking the goods isn't he? He's the young Perth scrummie who left school halfway through 2008 after being picked for Oz Schoolboys, to go on a tour by the Force. He got a rookie contract for 2009 but got painful back splints and didn't play a game.

He played in the Sydney comp last year and played well, then he backed himself and accepted a demotion to the Force Academy for 2010. Now the injury to Sheehan has given him a chance. He had the best schoolboy pass I had seen for years but I thought he didn't snipe enough. Not any more – he's got the balance perfect. Needs to bulk up though.

• Had to giggle a bit when I saw Ben McCalman come on and they called it was Sam Wykes, an ethnic Islander. Later Ben had a top run and Charles got the mention. Still, the Kiws do better than the Saffer guys with our blokes names.

• Did anybody get the name of that Force guy who came off the bench and burst through the Clan midfield a couple of times and offloaded a treat? I'd like the Rats to sign him up. He looked a lot like Sam Harris … but it couldn't be.

• Good to see Shep back and healthy, but I wonder what his time is for 40M these days?

• How crap was the Clan defence in the last 10 minutes? They made the Lions and Cheetahs look like Stonewall Jackson.

• The most impressive thing I saw watching the TV was at half time when Pocock took his jersey off. Too bad they don't do Chesty Bond commercials any more.

• Serves the Clan right for losing. Sure the sun was in the eyes of the Force during the first half but they had so little ball and should have used it out wide more. They looked good when they did.

• Isn't Newlands a goose? He must have gone close to being MOTM – for the Force !!!

Agreed JOC (James O'Connor) is one strong little bugger. He almost always shrugs off the first defender when attacking the line. Not his best goal kicking but he's been very consistent this season.

However it's his kicking game (best we've had since Latho) and his ability to inject himself.

He's got amazing instinct and you just have to pinch yourself to remember he's only 20. I just hope he finds his best position in the next season or two. If Shephard gets through another game or two unscathed on the wing, I wonder whether Mitchell will move O'Connor to 12?

It is good to see The Clan get around to their various supporting towns during the main season. Would love to see some of this happen in Australia but I doubt it.

As good as JO'C is at 12 he plays a great 15. I'm kind of agreeing with Eddie Jones here, Pocock isn't playing like he did last year.

I did love Jonkers' statement to Sharpie "I don't want to see any infringements in this half or I will send people off"
Fortunately the rest of the game was most played in the Clan's half.

Turner was great when he came on. He did provide that spark the Force were lacking.

Hill played well again and after kicking pretty much all game he did fool the defenders when he went for a run that led to a try.

Think you'll find he went to finishing school at Chatswood Oval and thats whats made him the player he is now. :cyclops

Think you'll find it wouldn't have mattered if he'd run out for the Renegades the last two years. He's just fucking good.

On the whistle Vainikolo manages to hover above the side line as he grounds the ball in the corner. Conversion missed.

Personally, I thought that try by Vainikolo was absolutely spectacular. In real time I thought he was so far into touch he could have been in the front row with the spectators. On slo-mo reply, I could only think "wow!"

Great awareness of the touch line and his body position as he put the ball down.

Ok, that is my quota of nice things to say about the Kiwi's for the year done and dusted....

it is also a great example of taking the corner posts out of the the field of play rule was a great thing.

I think you are safe with praising the play of Highlanders. No one will hold it against you.

He is a terrific local WA product and proof that the lesser states can still develop competitive players.

Turner, Tyrell and Longbottom are genuinely decent players and are proof that there are elite level players coming through the WA club system.

Is the ARC ever resurrects itself in some form I'm sure we will unearth more of these but without it it will be a battle.

Pocock looks scary with his shirt off. Like a hulking gorilla about to rip somebodies head off. Gotta be one of the most ripped forwards ever in international rugby.

I'll say it here and now - Justin Turner has the quickest and most accurate pass of any Australian halfback, and good composure. I think the Rebels could do worse than sign him up as their starting 9.

Brett Sheehan - the door is thataway.

And Pocock looks like one of those farkin Masters of the Universe toys I had as a kid.
