Uglia? Surely he'd be next off. Unless he goes to Rebels, he is Victorian after all.

Anthony Hegarty would now be next in line- pretty similar player to Charles

Ulugia was only offered a short term contract at the start of the year when Brumbies went through their injury crisis

True, but if they thought Hegarty or Charles were up to it wouldn't they have been upgraded?

Ulugia was signed to cover prop, they have never been short for a hooker with Charles and Hegarty 3rd and 4th choice

Pretty solid Tin Ear team, they'r on a roll and they'll probably roll the Force on saturday.

yep, that one game winning streak they have is quite special.

this would be close to the strongest Force team put on the park this year too.

that seems like a good move.

does anyone know if the brumbies are compensated at all because of his signing? i suppose he's free to sign with whomever but signing with the team he was loaned to seems a little odd to me....

Charles is a real hooker, Edmonds is a seagull

Great signing by the Force, he is a good hooker

A real hooker that runs 70metres and sets up a match winning try FP?? I thought that was enough to get him expelled from the club. ;)

Well bring them on, the Tin Ears had now two in Osfontein, oh well who cares anyway.

Glad to see Marnus on the bench , he nearly wreck his boets wedding in Paarl last week, klein vokkerkie.

For anybody deriding the move of Charles to the Force when he had been developed (give me a break) by the Brumbies, welcome to the real world.

The Tahs have been losing such players for years (including Sheehan who was also on loan like a library book). I have no argument with that because we have 65% of the players in Oz so they say. But if the Brumbies, the foremost borrowers from the NSW academy library, lose one from their own library, too bad. Serves you right for hiring Edmonds.

I was appalled that Charles was languishing behind Moore and Edmonds as 3rd string, and next year he will be 1st or 2nd string out west. I would have preferred that he went to the Rebels but this is next best.

As for the game - it may be a top match between lesser teams. The Force are getting a lot of their players back, much too late, but the Cheetahs are playing at home and have their iconic leader, Juan Smith, leading them.

I'm looking forward to it.

lindo, I've already mentioned Sheehan. Are you talking of Warwick Waugh? Was that a simialar situation? Either way, I agree that they should've for the exact same reasons.

Yeah, but you didn't say if the Reds paid the Tahs some sort of compensation for borrowing Brett. Did they? I don't know.

It certainly wasn't Phil. Didn't ever see PW turn out for the Brumbies.

Are the Brumbies giving out? Anyway, if he's good enough he should be starting and not left on the side line. Good move for Oz rugby. The Force need him.

Actually, at the start of the season he was 4th string behind Hegarty who was starting in most of the Brumbies Runners game with Charles on the bench. Funny what can happen in a couple of weeks. It will also be interesting to see what happens when he comes back to Uni. The battle between him and Ben Roberts for the hooker spot is always a good one. Both excellent players in different styles.

I noticed that Roberts was getting most of the games last year - at least in the TV games I watched - but that Charles was back for the G/F and Roberts on the bench.

How do you compare the two players strengths and weaknesses?

Roberts looked pretty handy for the JWs in that game where Huxley returned to the game though a couple of throws were too long which is neither here nor there. With Freier leaving there will be a professional spot for a hooker open in the Tahs stable next year, probably in the pro academy. What chance do you think Roberts has of getting it?

And what is your opinion of young Roberson who has been given a couple of games for Uni this year and is now in the Oz U/20 team? What are his strengths and weaknesses?

I wonder if Luke Holmes may be an option as well

Dane Haylett-Petty boarded a plane heading for South Africa on Wednesday - not sure as cover for who but wouldn't be overly surprised if it was for Shepherd.

All good questions, Lee. I'll do my best. Charles is very skilful and good with ball in hand. Likes to have a run and usually does pretty well. Good defender, solid scrummager and reliable at line out time. He is only 21 and is developing into a fine hooker. Would not surprise if he played for Aus one day. Roberts is a bit older, plays a lot tighter and loves the dirty work. As Bruce says he would rather fight than fornicate. Great at scrum time and excellent defender. Line out throws let him down at times and that is why he was dropped for the GF after a bad lineout game against Eastwood in the semi. Just a real hard nut who everyone loves playing with. I think eventually Charles will push him out but he won't go without a fight. Roberts would not be out of place at the Waratahs with Freier going and is still only 24 or 25.
Roberson is also a good player and played some JWs when Roberts was injured. He is still a bit young and learning his trade but looks to have the goods. Similar style player to Charles. Needs to get a bit more robust in the tight stuff but this will come with a bit more size and experience.

So Justin Turner, he looks pretty good, has a nice crisp pass and gets to the ruck quickly. But the Cheetahs have knocked it out of his hands at least 4 times, once leading directly to a try. Is he deceptively slow getting rid of the ball?

I think the offside line was just policed really poorly.

Turner still should of adjusted to this though... but he didn't.
