WFW Academy Launch

Pleasing to see this being fully integrated into the WF program.
Involvement from Chris Goodman (Head of WF Academy); Claudia Bell (Female High Performance Pathways Manager); Matt Hodgson (WF GM Rugby, WFW Coach 2023; Dyland Parsons (WF Academy Coach and WF Skills Coach) with assistance from Chris Heiberg (WFW Forwards Coach) and Jeremy Thrush (WFW Lineout Coach) and the full Fortescue Academy support group

Ollie Callan has been cleared to play this week.
Wells and Williams out due to failed HIA’s which is a shame as Williams in particular was looking good.
Hopefully no one else is out and maybe we get someone back. Any update on McCaulay and Koteka?
If not would like to see Pugh starting at 8 and Kalapu in the second row. Then would like to see Luke Callan debut off the bench

At what point are the Force going to consider signing Jake White to some kind of role?
A 50/50 blend of on field actual coaching, giving Cron and the other coaches advice, and more of a director of rugby type role.

I think a lot of people forget just how much of an impact he had on the Brumbies. 2nd last with the ‘Real Madrid’ of stars, he sacked most of them and went into 2012 with 3 Wallabies in the team and everyone else was a rookie journeyman (Scott Fardy) or very young, inexperienced backs, 75% of whom were Wallabies within a couple of years.

Totally overhauled the whole organisation, ranging from forcing any contracted/academy player to play in the local comp with a draft type system to make sure the talent was spread evenly, to having pro chefs brought in to make sure the squad were eating proper nutrition and even having a building with special sleeping pods so the team could smash the gym, sleep and recover, then train in the afternoons.
As a Saffer, he’d be a perfect fit for Perth, lots of expats there. Get him on board as the Director of rugby for the Force -a semi hands-on role overseeing the training/development programs and on a roving role consulting with all of the clubs and getting their own development systems on the same page.

For some reason people think the Brumbies under White were boring because the got the meat and veggies on the plate before lots of gravy, but he completely transformed an utter basket case of an organisation in 2 years.
2011 - 2nd last
2012 - 5th
2013 - 2nd.

Jake White unlikely to leave the Bulls as he has put in a lot of work with their recruitment and rebuild. He has also had health problems this year and was hospitalised for a short period.

Doubt he will be available elsewhere for the time being.

Jackson's time will come. I expect he's undergoing a bulking up program.
Hopefully you are right but he is already 23, Harry Wilson is the same age and Valetini only 1 year older so he should be ready by now. Getting decent minutes off the bench now anyway so all good

Somewhat of an unfair comparison considering that Pugh grew up in Perth and was playing senior rugby after the WF were axed from Super Rugby in 2017.
This had a major impact upon the standard of the local club scene in Perth.
He was always seen as a Lock rather than a Back Rower at Palmyra and during his early days in the Force Academy. He was in the WF's WTG in 2021 and the main player group in 2022.
It was only after he stopped growing that he started being developed as a Back Rower and was initially tested in this role with his NPC season at Auckland in 2022.
Although similar age to Wilson and Valetini, Pugh hasn't had the same level of exposure (no U20s and no Wallabies) and is >10kg lighter than either.
I reckon Pugh still has heaps of potentrial, needs to bulk up, will be a late developer and will make his own mark, in his own time.

Question for the Force fans (and anyone else who might care).

Does this build/rebuild feel different than in the past to you? Are you allowing yourself to dream?

We've had plenty of false dawns and heartbreak. Does this time feel real?
