Personally I think the board should have spilt when they voted to reduce a team as it was in direct opposition to one of the core aspects and mandates the ARU have to "grow the game"
they have fucking destroyed it the game in Australia, and dont seem to have an indication as to the breadth of hate for them at the moment. Not just from Force fans.

If they thought they would ultimately send all five teams to the wall if they didn't get rid of one team then they would argue they were acting in the best interests of the game on a national basis.

It is impossible to know what information the board members were presented with and how involved they were in analysing the information and options.

Certainly it would be incredibly disappointing if they voted on the basis of the recommendation put to them by the Executive and/or Clyne. They would certainly not be doing their job as independent directors in that situation.

they are professional board dwellers, keep your head down, do what the chairman says = more other board opportunities and an easy life.
It is rare for these types to stand up to chairmen, especially bullies like Clyne, if they did they would have been weeded out years ago.

Without a pathway in Western Australia, Australian Rugby can go to hell. I hope that they all get a big pay day outside of Australia and sent themselves up for life. Bugger the Wallabies, sort yourself out first.

In 10 years time the Wallabies will be lamenting the lack of talent and wonder why.

Alternatively I hope the club sides get an influx of money to retain many of these players and the state side organises entrance into an international comp somewhere around the world that will keep a majority of the players in WA. I wonder if special dispensation could be granted to allow us to play in the Asian national sides competition considering the ARU seems to be cutting all ties to WA. Western Australia v Japan would be a cracker I reckon if we continued developing the way we have.

I agree, bugger the ARU.
But I dont want to see these players lose jobs. They are pro players, I hope they can move and stay in Australia if that is what they want. It isnt their fault management is incompetent.

Interesting that Genia has signed with Rebels.

We have Stirzaker, Powell, Phipps, Gordon, Tuttle, Frisby, Louwrens, Ruru all running around at the moment who are decent scrum halves. Its not a position of weakness.

So makes perfect sense why the Force are cut and the ARU spends $500k a year on bringing back Will Genia.

I mean, maybe this is just me, but personally if an employer wrongs me that is usually done for me. If I know there is plenty of jobs out there I would move on.

Big money on the go in Japan & Europe for some of these players without having to deal with an employer who clearly doesn't give a toss about a place that you have great affection for. Rugby players careers are very short and if I were them I would be taken a page out of Genia's book and play in Europe for a bit then come riding in on a white horse to a big payday from the ARU.

Sure. But there is more than money at stake here. Many have families and lives outside rugby that mean leaving Australia and heading to Europe is not on the table.

yeah I would find it impossible to put my heart into another team and thus indirectly support the ARU. Would also rather go OS for a few years and then see what happens.

They will all have to put their heart into another team unless they want to give up the game.

They aren't supporting the ARU, they are supporting themselves.

another Aus team

They would be imo be indirectly supporting the ARU decision

Only justification would be to get a couple of Wallabies jersey's then head off.
Won't be surprised to see a few go if the timing is right for OS contracts

I think it is fairly likely that a substantial number of the best Force players will take contracts at other Australian sides.

Will you think less of them because in your view they are supporting the ARU's decision to cut the Force?

I think that is pretty unfair on the players.

No, people do what they need to do, that is their business.
BLR and I were simply saying we couldn't, at a personal level, do this.

But timing for OS contracts is horrible, Japan season has basically already started and most European squads have all but been finalised for the 2017/2018 season. Peak recruiting period is Feb-Jun for European clubs. Sure they could probably pick up a deal somewhere, but it won't be at market value.

I think it's unfair to expect players to boycott playing for another team, these are people with livelihoods at stake and families they need to provide for, and for some, the prize of representing their nation doesn't correlate to supporting the ARU.
