I have just watched 60 minutes of live rugby on EuroSport. The game was French Barbarians v a combined Europe team, played in Brussels under the auspices of the International Amateur Rugby Federation. Lively and entertaining but I gave up after 60 minutes to watch other games.

A feature was the rugby debut of one Karmichael Hunt, for the Baa Baas. He was hardly sighted but seems to have a decent pass. I had a chuckle when he tried to latch on to a ruck and got well and truly cleaned out - good education for the boy.

Eurosport launched in Australia today. Have just done a quick search of the program guide over the next 14 days for rugby programs and it has a "friendly rugby match" on Monday and Thursday and a load of French Top 14 games next Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Is that the same lineup as Eurosport Asia? No sign of any Guinness Premiership?

So it's a straight swap for channel 511 which used to be Eurosport NEws?

The "rugby friendly" is almost certainly that of which I wrote above. It's reasonably entertaining, with a reah highlight being the story of how the International Amateur Rugby Association was formed and why it was formed ... plus a little footage of K. Hunt.

Eurosport is very light on EPL and T14 while the international games are on in Europe. Probably rightly so.

Yeah - the replay has just started.

Good to see that EuroSports has got its programme guide up now. None of the rugby games seem to be live.

I see that Castres are playing CA on Thurs followed by Castres v CA. They'll be tired after playing those two games but I suspect it's a misprint. There's also a 30 minute show afterwards, which is probably a highlights package.

On Saturday there is the Paris derby: RM v SF and on Sunday there is Castres v Toulouse. Again one game is said to repeat after it was shown just before.

There is no rugby mentioned for the week staring today apart from the Friendly and Top14 games mentioned. Perhaps we'll see some ML and GP games after the autumn tests.

The 30 minute highlights packages are good value. They usually show all tries from all games, make a few comments and show the ladder.

PdP's favouritest match of the year, with it neatly timed to ruin his Christmas... :lmao:

I was watching some skiing on the new Eurosports channel and only half remembered an ad for an upcoming Top14 match. By the time I got my brain into gear it had finished (and unfortunately we can't get IQ in my street.)

When I look at the TV Programme Guide times I see some new rugby listings now and some of the ones I mentioned above are changed:

It's Albi v USAP at 5am Saturday and since the local time start is 6pm Friday it is a difference of 11 hours. The difference between AEST and Paris time is 10 hours, I think; so it's near enough to live.

Similarly the Castres v Toulouse game starts 1.30pm locally on Saturday and is broadcast at 2 am AEST - a difference of 12½ hours - delayed slightly.

Oz rugby fans - you will have to get used to commentator Nigel Starmer-Smith - but some of his guest commentators are interesting. Sometimes he gets one of the Racing Metro coaches for expert comments - he's good value.

Would take him over Kafer or the C7 planks any day. If we could just clone Bill McLaren all would be well with the world. Nurse, another tissue please!

Simon Maling?

Nigel SS is, shall we say, quaint. The other bloke is hilarious - his favourite saying seems to be "what can he do?", sometimes varied to "lets see what he can do".

I like some the French expert comments men. I also like the practice of getting off-duty players to provide the comments - it is great to hear comments from Byron Kelleher and Andrew Mehrtens, for example.

One thing about the EuroSports which I really appreciate is the camera angles, both horizontal and vertical. Best example is that I have trouble on other telecasting in picking out the lateral separation of players. With EuroSports that is easy.
