So this game is going to be played "Somewhere"?

Somewhere in Portugal, in fact: Estadio Universitario de Lisboa.

Can't tell you much about form, but you could do worse than go with the home team.

Shall we get some team news happening to help the tippers?

That implies that we use such knowledge to make informed, educated tipping decisions, as opposed to the wild guess work that really happens....

Why make wild guesses? The full form of both teams is available, the players are known, the ground conditions and weather are accurately forecast, there are opinions of dozens of experts on tap and the probabilites assessed by professionals who make their living from same are free to all.

In other words, you've got no bloody idea!

And yet despite all that, most of us still tip the Wobblies.

If the Biffmeister doesnt win this tournament, questions will be asked at the highest (and lowest) levels.....

For biffo's benefit, you get 2.0 for the win, 0.5 for being within 5 points of the correct margin, and 1.0 for being closest to the pin. And an extra 1.0 if you pick all the winners in a round.

Fourth match official, please.

Could you be so kind as to check my score? In Round 1 I picked NZ by 8 and Wallabies by 15. I make it that my points should be:

NZ v Wallabies. 2.0 for the winner. 0.5 for margin within 5. Total = 2.5

Gloucester v Australia. 2.0 for the winner. Total = 2.0

All winners picked in the round = 1.0

That would give 5.5 points.

Have I made a mistake in entering my selections?

Actually biff, I think I got this wrong. It's only 1.0 for each win.

For some reason, they had added the all-games correct bonus point already after the first game.

Thanks, Mate. I have just been to the site and worked out the problem. I was going to reply to myself. :)

Hang on. I did not write that I would eliminate wild guesses. I wrote that it can be done.

I am simply making reasonably informed judgements in this comp. Too much work, for too little reward, involved in rigorous analysis.

I expect my less-than-wild guesses to result in a podium finish. :)

I took at stab at the first game and missed by 1 point.

I studied the form and trawled the web for information on the 2nd game and missed by 20.

Back to the dart board!

:)

In RWC 2003 a mate and I bet on all games, making our selections from the IRB rankings, adjusting for the home and away factor. We were wrong only once. Nice result.

OK, I'm going to have one last stab at this.

The win point can be EITHER 1.0 or 2.0 depending on how hard it is to pick the winner.

AND

No "grand-slam" bonus points in this tournament

That last one's a bad omen.

Let's see how the results are scored this round. Maybe we can solve the equation then.

I've solved it. That's what I'm indicating to you, son.

Using your 1 or 2 points and assuming Oz/Nz was 2 and Oz/Glaws was 1, I should have:

a. Saturday: 2 points for winner, 0.5 for margin = 2.5. That was recorded as my score.

b. Tuesday: 1 point for winner = 1.0.

c. From the round: 1.0 points for getting every result right.

That would give 4.5.

What's the composition of your 4.5? Anything for getting all the round right?
