Very disappointed to read Cheika had invited Super Rugby coaches to go on trip and they are not. This perhaps makes more sense than the rumour that he was looking for them to actually be assistants.

What I find disappointing is that they are not going. Or at least Larkham, Foley and Graham aren't. They have to be in Australia preparing their Super Rugby sides. Incidentally No4918, how do you feel about this? No mention of the Rebels coach being invited.

For a whole range of reasons this is an unsatisfactory outcome for mine and I think everyone should be rethinking this. Certainly five weeks away does not make any sense but I thought it must be of tremendous value for Australian rugby to bring this together. Maybe a week away is doable. Fly in for a game on the Saturday, work with Cheika's coaching team for the next couple of days, touch base with their own players and then fly home Tuesday or Wednesday.

If I was Super Rugby CEO I would want a clear explanation from my coach why there was no value in that exercise.

I don't think Cheika would make a good Test coach anyway, he'd have to significantly change his coaching philosophy. Neglected set piece, high running game and all based on a strong physical dominance. Won't work with the Wallabies.
All he needs there is a coach adept at coaching the set-piece and the Wallabies are a force to be reckoned with.

For mine, the Waratahs had exceptional games against SA teams (which were pretty much the only 'Tah games I watched. The physicality they brought was exceptional and it is probably the biggest reason for their title this year.

That's strange, I think it's the opposite, the Tahs did very well vs NZ teams compared to the SA ones. Sure they smashed the Lions at home but struggled against a pretty poor Bulls side at home, had their worst loss against the Sharks and got pretty luck against the Stormers who were in a bad place mentally and injury wise thanks to a Nick Phipps try.

That's true, but you have to remember the physical game is speciality number one in SA (mostly). Also, I watched the game against the Sharks and the Sharks struggled for quite a bit in that game.

At the end of the day, if you challenge a Saffa physically he will do his best to beat you. That does not mean he will always succeed though.

As long as no verbal jibes are given beforehand about physicality you should stand a chance.

I have a 60Kg frame and I still take on 110Kg guys in arm wrestling when they challenge me, in fact, I sometimes instigate the challenge myself. It's in our nature.

If he's so amazing why was he just a decent international player when he did player for England?

Right bows he's just another example of a decent playing being the "form x in the world" out of France or England.
Potgieter was average for the Bulls and everyone wondered why he made the Springbok team in 2012. He was poor there.

Now look at how much he is appreciated at the Tahs.

Does anyone else think we may be better served long-term if we rest some of our key players for the EOYT to give them an off season to freshen up with the added bonus of developing some depth and seeing if others are up to test level?

Players who I think should be rested are Slipper, Moore, TPN, Kepu, Hooper, Palu, Genia, Cooper, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Folau, Robinson. I know some of these guys are / haven been injured and have had a 'rest' whilst recovering but my idea would allow them to have an 'off season' to help build their bodies, strengthen and freshen them up in the world cup year.

Players I would look to include would be Toby Smith, Scott Sio and Pek for LHP; Finger, Hanson, plus 1 for hooker; Weekes, Ryan, PAE for THP; Hodgson and Gill / McMahon for openside; Higgers plus one for 8; Phipps, White plus one (Frisby ?) for half; keep the current fly-half rotation (minus Quade); bring in Speight, Morahan, Lucas for wing / fullback.

Is this a worthwhile idea or could it lead to arguments of devaluing test rugby?
You'd sacrifice continuity at a crucial time. The EOYT before a RWC is not the time to put different bodies on the pitch and potentially lose crucial games and divide the squad further.

England and Wales specifically will be aiming for victories over Australia for a mental blow and a victory for them, whether against the best Aus team or 3rd stringers won't matter to them.

You're not even sure of your best locks, 9, or 12 (or even number 8 for that matter). Putting a bunch of folks in there for the sake of it won't help your cause as you are likely to have a tough time up front which will make the entire backline look crap anyway if things really go wrong.

I am looking at the EOYT and the thing that stands out to me is the potential for England to get thumped from Pillar-to-Post.. All Black Springboks, Oz, Samoa. Lots of opportunity for it to all go downhill from the outset.

Of course Wales and England will be "Putting their Stands Out" for the World Cup. We are shopping around for a New Wheelbarrow. Anyhow - look forward To much England pain in coming weeks. i see Wales as our Danger Game.
Victory against one of the big 3 will be ok-ish for them, victory against 2 will be awesome.

The possibility is they manage the opposite of getting thumped pillar-to-post and roll all comers. What then?

Ireland are 6N champs yet most people expect England to be tougher. Why?
England have shown gradual but consistent improvement since 2012.

They have drawn to SA, beaten NZ and ran them close in NZ most recently.

Since his appointment I have lauded Lancaster and I think he is underrated by most.

You don't need trophies as proof that you are improving. England have shown this and SA have shown this.

I believe England will peak at just the right time in 2015 and they will be aiming to boost their trajectory this November.

I am very wary of both as they are our first two opponents this November, but a loss to Ireland will be a disappointing loss to Ireland. A loss to England would be a significant event given it's been 8 years since their last victory over us. If we do somehow reach the final they are quite likely to be there. This is not the time to slip up.

Neither is it for Australia, you need victory over England with your new coach going into the RWC.

You're lucky to have the Barbarians game as your first game on tour but you're not so lucky facing England last who are starting a new season and will have gained some synergy from the games before that. A victory against any of NZ or SA will make them extremely tough to beat. While I suspect losses to both will have the Poms hell-bent on beating Australia - I mean, it's not as if Aus and Eng don't have enough of a rivalry already.

I have said it in 2012 and many times in between and I'll say it again. Do not underestimate England!

As for Ireland, they are the champions and the improvement they have shown in a short period of time is dramatic. For some reason the Boks always struggle against the Irish but ultimately I don't think they posess the quality England does.

I think Cheika and the Wallabies will be fairly conservative on this tour, sticking to the basics mostly.

What is nice to see for spring tour is Macmahon, jones and english selected for tour based on NRC form for Melbourne Rising...showing that NRC as player development / pathway for Superrugby and Wallabies is working.....and indeed been key missing gap.....can only be positive for development and building of depth in wallabies playing stocks.....

The Rising trio were sorely missed on the weekend ....would love to see what
Cheika can do with these guys . I am also expecting Quade Cooper to grab his chance with both hands coupled with a more mature approach . The squad has the skillset , they just need Cheika to build the belief ..onward and upward - Go Wallabies !!!!

If Inman ever gets a call up,then our game is in tatters.

Really? A player you consider non-deserving getting an EOYT call-up is going to wreck our game?

Deans gave them away like chocolate frogs if I recall correctly and the sun still came up.

IF our game is in tatters? I think Pulver and Co might have taken care of that already, and they aren't even eligible to be named in the match day squad.

Perspective please.
