I don't understand why a rugby supporter doesn't have Foxtel.

You can't see any rugby without it apart from aus Tests

cost. I can't justify $50-$75 (which is the new reduced cost) a month for it with a large family plus a Reds Membership. Whilst I would love to watch all that rugby, with young kids it is not viable for me to sit around and watch 10-20 hours of rugby a weekend. Also, I don't particularly want them sitting around the tv all weekend watching cartoons etc. Which closes the cycle, if I don't want them watching that much tv, and I can't watch that much tv, why pay so damn much for it.

As far as I'm aware, the ARU doesn't have the rights to sell this game. The RFU sell it, the purchaser then on-selling it.

I could be wrong but that is my understanding.

That wouldn't surprise me. Here in the middle east we get outstanding coverage via pay TV, but England vs anyone is never shown here. I understand the broadcast rights for their games are very tightly tied up.

Considering the game is at 3am I'm not sure ratings would be the issue?

There is usually a rational basis for programming decisions, and the FTA networks rise and fall on the back of their ratings.

Fall, mostly, in TEN's case.


Cannot imagine any other reason than the equation, cost of programme versus revenue it earns.

Paying $50 a month soley for the purpose of supporting your rugby team is very expensive. $50 all year round to watch around 15 super xv games for your province and then a handful of international Tests. It simply is not worth it.

Well I calculate it differently

It is all S15 games, nearly all tests, French rugby, NPC, ARC, Currie Cup and some Heineken Cup

but I have no kids to get in the way and record everything, then pick what I want as my whims decide

Foxtel? My problem in part is the cost, because I'd have to get it in HD and with IQ to make it worthwhile. Then the fucking kids sit there and watch it all day.

It actually costs me more to go to games but I prefer the atmosphere at the ground. And my wife prefers me to provide atmosphere anywhere but the house.

Good to see that Saia Fainga'a is fit to play. We really need him.

Good to see Fainga'a is fit, and the locks stay the same. Bit surprised re McMahon, slightly less surprised that Foley starts and not Cooper (which I would like to have seen) and the rest seems unsurprising. Horne probably just pipped Tomane, which on this season's form, is not unexpected. Reserves will be interesting.

Can't really comprehend the McMahon decision, he's worse in the set-piece than Jones against the best set-piece team we're going to face.
