Wow I never realized he's only 26, somebody better grab him.

Sad to see decisions like this made because of the relatively poor financial state even the NZRFU and Rugby as a whole finds itself.

Bring him to the Tahs!

Him and TPN would be a great combo.

He would really be a worthwhile marquee player in a position where Australian rugby struggles for depth.

Can they afford him? I guess with the upcoming exodus there should be some room for them to wiggle.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this wrong but all it says is that Hika has not been resigned for his NPC team it has nothing to do with his Chiefs contract? So why would he leave the Chiefs?

I reckon you'd have to ask him yourself. Sounds like a monetary issue though. Considering he's 4th or 5th in line for the All Black hooker position right now and they dumped him on the grounds that he may play for the ABs there is a possibility something else is going on that hasn't come to light yet because that doesn't really make much sense. Final quote from Hika also stinks of sour grapes as well.

"The three-test All Black said that could include looking at overseas options though his preference was to stay in New Zealand."

So, the bay don't want to pay his wages as they don't think he will play much, as he will be in the AB squad, seems harsh but fair.

The NZRFU has an agreement to reimburse the clubs for when players get pulled for the ABs. Like I mentioned he's pretty far back in line for the spot anyway which is why he only has 3 caps at 26. Really weak rationale when you consider all of those things together.

There are plenty of cuzzy-bro's in Sydney, so I doubt that he would feel alone there.

How have we turned an AB capped Kiwi not getting a contract from their NPC club into potentially moving to a Aus Super Rugby team?

He's actually still signed with Chiefs next year anyway, think it might be Hawkes Bay trying to get more money out of NZRU, well that's what it smells of!!

Shiggins, he would still be signed to a club/union, just not contracted. I would imagine if it a problem he could still be signed to Hawkes Bay, just not get paid by them. I not sure that a lot of All Blacks are actually contracted to their unions just a member of a club, as most wouldn't be available for any ITM games.
