I believe he objected to all of the articles. No matter how measured the reporting was. Each article demonstrated that Digby was either too stupid,or too arrogant to comply with a summons.
This mentality that he is beyond reproach is understandable when you consider that these guys are surrounded by sycophants that are forever telling them they are gods gift.
Then the CEO comes out and claims it is a storm in a teacup!
I think I am more disappointed in Pulver than Digby.
He is no leader, but might be a good spin doctor.
I can tell you now, where this game will be in 5 years time.
Wherever the line of least resistance takes us.

Good post iltw. If you read Jim Carmichael's public angst re DI at the time of him blaming the Reds/QRU for not maximising his income, you will see that the Reds had many accumulating issues re DI's behaviour, it was getting beyond a joke, and not all had been reported.

Pulver's unnecessary OTT public flattery of Beale and his latest extraordinary comments re DI's assault charge will only create problems down the track. He seems to be now grading formal assault charges against his Wallaby players as entirely forgivable and forgettable.

Is he? He labelled the reaction to the arrest warrant as a storm in a tea cup as far as I could tell. I doubt he would publicly comment that assault charges are even tolerable. Let alone entirely forgiveable.

The fact that a new date was set and then the news outlets dropped it quicker than they picked it up, would back up his claim to me.

He did comment on it.....
"Had Digby attended court, my understanding is he would have been issued with a small fine to donate to a local charity," Pulver said.
"He is getting in contact with Prahran police, a new court date is being set and the warrant is being withdrawn. It's a storm in a teacup."

Let's recall that Lote T's ARU contract was totally torn up for a sexual indiscretion (with no illegality as far as was known) after a few other 'rules breaches' (again, as I recall, none of which involved any police matter).

Read the press articles carefully re Pulver's comments over this latest DI drama. All of Pulver's statements would indicate that he considers the whole matter quite minor, and even refers to the matter as one where 'we've found all DI will actually need to do is make a donation to charity' etc. The whole tone is one of dismissal and concern that the matter or neglecting a court date and risking arrest has been somehow blown out of proportion. This relating to a formal assault charge, followed an arrest warrant as no respect was given to the court attendance requirement. Pulver/ARU has made no mention of the ARU contemplating any punishment of DI over this whole matter. (Btw: If a high-profile sportsman is up on an arrest warrant, it's entirely normal that the media would grab this, and the UK media is still running with it, it has by no means 'been dropped' as you suggest, it's still up on many Aus online sports sections.)

Then we have the declaration that KB (Kurtley Beale) was or should be seen as 'a national treasure'. Excuse me? He's a highly paid pro sportsman who's been up on a public assault charge, and has assaulted his team mates and then broken agreements re booze he made with his employers. It's still far from clear what punishment if any the ARU (as distinct from the Rebels) handed out to KB (Kurtley Beale) over these incidents, other than supportive rehab time. KB (Kurtley Beale) was soon very fast-tracked back into the Wallabies, clearly.

All I am stating is that IMO a common sense everyday person looking at these statements would consider that the head of DI's and KB (Kurtley Beale)'s employer was far from condemning of the players involved over these incidents and was doing his best to construe them as not serious or having any grounds to, for example, formally punish the player involved, or do much more than be 'understanding'.

All fair points RedsHappy but I just don't think that Pulver is being as accepting of assault by his players as you seem to think he is. The details of this particular assault we are not privy to, or at least I am not. So I don't know what happened. It could've been a heinous act of violence or it could've been as minor as a fart. Yes, deliberately farting near someone to offend them is assault. So whilst I am happy for you to hold your view, I don't think that Pulver's stance is nearly that bad, in the matter to do with Digby. Pulver's comments all to me, read like he is referring to the "reaction to the warrant" and not the matter of the assault.

I Googled "Digby Ioane Arrest Warrant" and selected the "news" option. The most recent article was published 17 hours ago. Which was yesterday. Nothing today. The story broke on Monday and the last article published (online) was the following day. That to me tells me that the story is dead. There is nothing new to report. Storm in a teacup.

Regarding the Beale public treasure comment.

Watching last nights match prompted me to ponder how the Rebels feel about KB (Kurtley Beale) being rushed back into the Wallabies. I wonder if they had intended to really make an example of him this time round? If so, the ARU has completely scuttled that.

Mind you, not the worst incident of a governing body walking over a state organisation this week. Word is QLD wasn't even informed CA had offered Lehman the Australia job. They found via the media. And Boof coaches all 3 of Qld's 20/20, OD and Sheffield teams.

So you think a guy sitting out watching test rugby is much better off than a guy playing test rugby especially for anyone trying to get over a drinking problem?

Not at all commenting on Beales recovery. Those questions are best left to the experts. Commenting on interplay between a provincial side and its governing body. Rebels might have been happy for Beale to come back. Maybe not. If not, you would expect the governing body to support their stand against anti-social behaviour and maintaining player standards. I do say "expect", but considering this is the ARU it is probably being over optimistic.

Recovery? Was KB (Kurtley Beale) injured?

If you look at the reports from the time

Police confirmed they were investigating the alleged assault of a Prahran man, aged 30, at a hotel on High Street.
''It is believed a 30-year-old Brisbane man approached a 30-year-old Prahran man and the pair then became involved in a verbal altercation,'' a spokesperson said. ''It is alleged the Brisbane man has then assaulted the Prahran man, who sustained a minor leg injury. The 30-year-old Brisbane man and a 27-year-old Brisbane man are currently assisting police with inquiries. As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.''

It does seem to be a storm in a tea cup.

My only issues were how the hell do you miss a court date and his dumb comment afterwards.

But on going back and seeing what was reported at the time .......... I found this gem as well

Twitter on Sunday evening: ''I'm a lover not a fighter…. God always has my back…. #truth #Godbless my twitter friends.''

meh, and he wonders why he couldn't get the third party deals he was hoping for.

Memo to all sportsmen, if you want good 3rd party deals, stay out of trouble and don't say stupid stuff (as well as play good football)
