Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

With growth of world rugby across the board, I reckon we will get a rich benefactor (Asian money is my bet) investing in a new domestic rugby competition. As this country is ripe for the big billionaire wanting a play thing and makes his mark ie. what Packer did to cricket in 70's, what Russian money done in soccer and EPL in particular etc etc.

I don't see contrary to what Mr Anderson was quoting in the paper on threat the above poses to league coming from Murdoch or Packer as he quoted.

I think it's a good investment, and will also do Sydney well to take the Bledisloe away for a year

Nothing wrong with it at all in theory. My only point is that I hope that it's used to help reinvigorate rugby in WA - to do so needs work before and after, not just rely on the event itself.

I could be very wrong, but I reckon that all it will take to get the support for the game up in WA is a competitive Force outfit playing attractive rugby.

Maybe that's too much to hope for?

Well, for the Force to be competitive on a long term, sustainable basis they need to have a grass roots structure in place to provide at least some of the players, but also supporters and merchandise buyers.

That's the hard part.

I'm not going to link to it, but if you're feeling masochistic go ahead and read Spiro's final article for Fairfax............

The lengthy ramblings of an old man long out of touch with the game.

Here's a quote:

The heartland of rugby, in my opinion, needs to overthrow the ARU board and install John O'Neill as chairman to lead a needed renaissance of the game.

Got to say, it's easy to take pot hots at BP.

But its horrifying to think where would we be,had he not replaced JON when he did.

JON was terrible - don't think many would disagree with that.

You (anybody) would have to be the eternal optimist not to level some criticism at Pulver.

At the end of the day Wallaby results thru the team, Cheika and his assistants and the results this year flow through to the ARU (and Pulver in particular).

The buck always finds a home eventually

FFS.

Pulver isn't popular (and I agree with that opinion) but he's at least done better than John O'Neill

EDIT: My reaction -
