Have known him for over 20 years. Had a great love of Rugby (and all sport). Was a great MC at functions, especially if you were hiring him professionally. A great loss and another person who was robbed of the joy of later life. Thoughts are with his family.

Christ. The poor bloke was really up against it. Best regards and wishes to his family.

such a shame. He was a great lover of Aussie sport. I also believe that for a short time at end of 80's early 90's he may have been Wally Lewis' manager for a while.

Nice fella. My wife and I were at the All Blacks v Wallabies in Dunedin 2001 and he walked past us. Realising we were Wallabies supporters he stopped and started a conversation with us pre-match for about ten minutes. He really did come across as nice as he came across on telly, very genuine and we were stoked.

I must admit, at the time he took over the main commentary reigns, it was at the expense of the voice of rugby, Gordon Bray. So initially, I wasn't his biggest fan. But Fordo oversaw a golden period of Wallaby rugby, and I certainly grew to enjoy his calls. But when he went back to being a news reader, was I alone in saying that I felt betrayed? When you become a rugby caller, it's for life fella. Anyway, Fordo, we raise a glass this weekend, ....and a winfield.
