After a great night this is an absolute disaster. Baxter has probably this season left and then retirement/overseas. Kepu is a LHP and Palmer is the next Wallaby tight head. Why oh why would you let him go? He is probably the most important person to keep outside the current 22 and in the top 5 must-have retentions in the squad.

i was thinking this same thing. next year looked clear at the Tahs and now who knows with the ponies. ma'afu and alexander won't be going anywhere, plus jerry y makes for some decent props already. maybe he'll still get his shot. i hope he didn't go from one waiting line to another.

"expected to sign"...I hope that means there is still a chance he will stay with the Waratahs (maybe with some assurances that he will get a run from time to time). He is not the sort of player the Waratahs should be losing, but maybe they have someone else up their sleeve? Maybe not.

This is an unmitigated disaster. Good THPs are very rare. In fact we're damn lucky we've got about 4 running around now. The NSWRU are pillocks - clearly there are too many backs in power.

Jesus this thread is a whole lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over an article that doesn't even have a single quote from Palmer or his management. Hell it doesn't even have any of the usual 'according to a Waratahs/Brumbies insider' bullshit that Australian rugby 'journalists' love to use when they're inventing their stories. In fact the article as a whole seems to be a scattergun 'make enough crap up and hope that some of it turns out to be true' effort by the halfwit writer, espeically given that Palmer's contracted to 2011 with NSW.

Sure he could have an option for 2011 and if he exercises it and goes elsewhere it would be a mmonumental fuckup from the NSWRU, but it seems to be jumping the gun to be thinking the worlds coming to an end because of the unsubstantiated drivel from a journo.

Good post!

Brumby Jack is an insider and reckons it's nearly a done deal. Tahs would be mad to lose him though.

As far as I know Dan Palmer was given a 3 year contract as a teenager and I remember commenting at the time that it was a great act of faith by the Tahs. The link I had doesn't exist any more but I have a note that says it expires in 2011.

Does anybody know anything different and has a link?

I envisaged Fat Cat, Kepu and Palmer playing together for the Tahs for a while after Baxter hangs up his boots. If I'm wrong and Palmer's contract expires this year and he moves on you can't blame him. But the way Ma'afu scrummaged tonight, it would be a brave move and there is always the likelihood that Alexander may be switched to THP if Ma'afu is hurt and Jerry Y is any good and plays LHP.

If Palmer goes Paddy Ryan from the Uni factory could get promoted from the Tahs pro Academy. He was a terrific LHP for Joeys/Oz Schools and he held down the Uni THP spot for Uni in 2009. He's 120kgs now but still mobile and the Uni scrums look decent.

I may go to watch the JWs at Knox against the Brumby Runners to see how he rates in that company. Will be good to see Huxley on the park again if he plays, also. I wonder how many scouts from the Rebels I can notice.

if it was anyone other than BJ stating this, I'd call their bluff. The man has the inside word!

Well, someone did remark earlier he's got his hoof on the Brumbies' pulse. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
