Big news over here. Started out with some complaints about the cost of the All Blacks WC jersey. At $220 i can see their point

"New Zealand's largest sports retailer is threatening to send the new All Blacks jerseys back unless Adidas lowers the price.

Rod Duke, general manager of Rebel Sport and Briscoes, told NewstalkZB's Murray Deaker he was absolutely furious at the price difference between New Zealand and other overseas markets.

The Rugby World Cup edition of this year's jersey costs $220 in most New Zealand retail outlets but the same jersey can be picked up for less than $105 online in the United States."

although Addidas seemed to have partiall backed down now....and copped a fair bit of egg in the face:

"Adidas' public relations disaster spiralled further out of control last night, with the global sport giant cancelling a glitzy party tonight to celebrate the All Blacks.

And this morning, the company has done a u-turn over online All Black jersey sales.

The company's New Zealand manager, David Huggett, says Adidas has had discussions with its offshore colleagues and the two sites that were shut down for shipping back here, will be opened up again."

Not sure if it has been raised over the other threads but apparently the price of the Aussie Koo-ga was about the same, however a quick look online shows it at $109 which seems reasonable in comparison. Are fans getting ripped off?

Western force shirts are about $140 most of the time. But $220 seems over the top!

They have a point, I was there while this was blowing up, and not only have adidas chucked the premium on the local market, but they stopped some online retailers shipping direct to NZ. Captive markets in todays global society is shit. It needs to stop.

No doubt addidas are ****s for doing it, so just don't buy the jersey. Its that simple.

Yeah, fans are getting ripped off. The situation isn't unique to NZ. It's the same story with the Wallabies jersey. How much would it cost to actually make a jersey? Buy online from websites such as those listed by Tangawizi and save your $$$. This should send a message to the manufacturers.

Adidas is doing this as they can't advertise their 3 stripes on it in a subliminal way for their other products so they bump up the price to make up for it!

That's my take on it... :)

Two more (separate stories) in this morning's NZ herald. One about Richie McCaw's girlfriend wading in with a tweet saying asking Addidas to reduce their price is like asking Louis Vuiton to drop the cost of their handbags! The other adding up the cost of all the other not so cheap tat one can buy as a fan.....scarfs, flag, beanie etc all add up to a whopping NZ$478, which is good news to all those 3rd world textile workers on a dollar a day.

None of the stories really seem to be getting down to what the actual lowest possible wholesale price to Addidas is, which would be good to know

Anyway nice on a short trip over here to see lots of Rugby related stories in the news.

In all fairness, it's expensive because they have a small population. There is only so many to sell.

They will be cheap after the world cup anyway when they f$ck up again.

If your an economist and are wondering why Australia's retail sector is doing so ****, look no further than this. Bunch of fuckwits are basically begging people to buy them online.
