So we've all read about our backs being small, now the Saffas are concerned by the size of Gio Aplon... what would be great is a list of current small backline players from around the world and their weights and heights so I can sort them into a table.

Gio is 74kg and 5'9"

It is the size of the fight in the dog, not the size of the dog in the fight.

One of the biggest runts I can recall is Grant Batty for the Darkness (circa 72-74). His vital dimensions were 5'5" (1.65m) and 11 stone (70kg).http://stats.allblacks.com/asp/Profile.asp?ABID=43

Believe he is now a Gold Coast resident, along with about 2 million other Ex-LOTDers who have come over to our fair shores.

This little fox terrior of a winger would often sprint in about 90 metres off his wing to assist to sort out any unplanned and spontaneous impact counseling sessions between opposition forwards.

Not contemporary but worthy of mention. He has probably lived here for long enough to be considered one of us. Wikipedia even tells us that his son has played fairly high level of rugby in Australia.

Terry Wright - winger for the Darkness (1986-1992) was another runt. All Blacks.com have him at 1.83m, 75kg.
Allan Hewson - Fullback for the Darkness (1979-1984) was another. All Blacks.com have him at 1.80m, 73kg.

I can't really recall any similar sized runts for the Wobs.

In the professional era, I am not too sure that Strength and Condition Coaches, and Dietitians today would allow such runts on their roster.

There is so much pressure placed on players to bulk up, that genuine runts are becoming a rare beast.

I'm pretty sure Grant Batty used to run rugby league camps at Lennox Head. NAthan Brown attended one of these camps in his latter years at school. I am guessing it had a league focus given, at the time, there was zero union presence on the NSW north coast.

Height and weight stats are far too inaccurate, I bet you can find a few sources citing 2-3 cm difference in height for one player

Ken Wright was a lightweight, he could have ridden at Randwick in the offseason

A guy I played against last year Joel Hodgson, newcastle falcon academy member, is 5ft10 and 68 kgs. He doesn't put on muscle very easily i dont think.
