Earlier in the day, Key delivered sobering news that rebuilding the city would take 15 years. It would be two years before very much progress could be seen, he warned, and the CBD, which bore the brunt of the jolt, could be closed until Christmas.

According to this article, If the CBD is closed until xmas, surely they can't host any games.

Aparently the Stadium is not in that bad a state and talk is of cruise ships for accomidation so very possible.

I have heard some structural damage and liquefaction on the playing surface. finding it hard to get accurate info though, probably not anybodies highest priority.

they said during the week that no one had actual assessed the stadium yet other than the playing surface for the very reason that bodies/rescue is the priority.

it could be a month or two before anyone gets anywhere near it. surely with cruise ships or not, if the CBD is closed they cant have a heap of people decend there and be stuck with nothing to do.
