Fairly good game so far. 2 Chiefs tries from charge downs has kept them in touch then take the lead. Fair reflection of the game despite the opportunistic nature of the tries. Looks like Carter has a case of the 'Coopers' with the first try from his charge down followed by a kick off not going 10.

Love Walsh's intervention in that scrum.
Funny they both stated up afterwards!

Competition is damn close. Chiefs and Reds were clear favourites the last 2 years at this stage. This year i'd say there are about 5 sides that could get up.

At this stage last year I thought the Chiefs and Brumbies were favorites. Didn't the Reds make a bit of late run? However, my memory is shit so you could be right.

I thought it was a fantastic contest. Very physical as we've come to expect from these traditional heavyweights of the NZ conference.

Plenty of debate in the Tahs v Brumbies thread last week post match as to the merits or otherwise of Steve Walsh's officiating. IMO he had a very good game in Hamilton with 2 sides going hammer & tongs at every breakdown yet no pedantic intervention from Walsh.

Great game! Chiefs attack really fired in the second half, some dynamic stuff from Cruden, Robinson and Masaga when he came on.

Only thing Walsh had a problem with was the scrum, a lot of resets and a lot of collapses.

Why aren't any Reds fans having a go at Messam/Cruden for taking the last penalty shot? Had a good whinge about the same thing in 2011.

I'll play, lets see how low we can go. Wasn't there 1.30 still on the clock when it was called. Plenty of time for the Saders to get the ball back.

Why aren't you having a go at Carter for being charged down?

The Saders will probably beat them in the return match in Christchurch.
But, it seems as if the Chiefs will top the NZ conference if things run according to form.
