I am not sure why, but no thread for this game yet. I expected the Chiefs to close this one out fairly easily, but this Lions side is a very balanced and creative team. I reckon they will win a lot of games this year if they keep playing like this.

Definitely the most complete performance from any team I have watched so far this season, (and I have seen all of them).

Cracker of a game with the score 32-36 to the Lions with about 8 to go.

EDIT - So the Lions held on from a strong finishing Chiefs for the 32-36 win, Chiefs were also very impressive, just not quite able to bring it home. Wonderful game of rugby!

Yep galumay, I agree , I think that was a very very good performance by the Lions, geez their forwards just belted into everything and their backs just did exactly the same. Very good game!!

agree great game to watch. the Lions have been my favourite South African team the last couple of years, even though they broke my heart with an after the bell win against the Rebels

Yes, the Chiefs are my favourite NZ team, but you dont mind too much when your team loses in a game like that against real quality opposition.

I suspect it also says something about the quality of this game we love - how many sports can you really enjoy watching two teams that are from other countries and that you dont really support?! Gotta go now, Highlanders & Canes is on and looking good too!!

Oh and how good is Whitely, as a player, captain and after match interviewee
Really smart and humble and always seems to be enjoying himself. Always gives credit to the opposition and I've never seen him get shitty with a ref or his team

If the Lions can shore up their defense they will be really hard to beat. They fell off a lot of tackles but they have points in them. Have to defend better to go far in this comp though.

Lions won 3/4 in Australasia last year do maybe we shouldn't be too surprised by this result esp given Tribes' lack of tight-5 depth & losing Retallick (any word on him BTW? Thought I'd set the box to record the game, turns out it was only a reminder).

Chiefs high wire act comes unstuck. Some anaemic D and a dysfunctional scrum. Pauliasu gets subbed at HT and they still go backwards. Yamashita? Yeah, I blame Oddjob..

Poor bugger, Vermeulen has reduced him to a bokkes almost man. If he was a NZer I'd have him ahead of Vito as Read's #8 back-up. Definitely passes the No Dickheads rule

Great win to the Lions. The Chiefs are severely undermanned.

They have now lost 4 of the first choice tight five - Laulala, Elliot, Bird, Retallick.

As well as Messam and SBW away for the Sevens.

They are ripe for the plucking.

I don't think so, they are playing the Kings.

:) Southern Kings: 15 Jurgen Visser 14 Luzuko Vulindlu 13 Stefan Watermeyer 12 Shane Gates 11 Malcolm Jaer 10 Louis Fouche 9 Ntando Kebe 8 Jacques Engelbrecht 7 Thembelani Bholi 6 Chris Cloete 5 JC Astle 4 Steven Sykes (captain) 3 Jacobie Adriaanse 2 Edgar Matutlule 1 Schalk Feirreira
Substitutes: 16 Sithembiso Sithole 17 Martin Bezuidenhout 18 Tom Botha 19 Schalk Oelofse 20 CJ Velleman 21 Kevin Luiters 22 Elgar Watts 23 Jaco van Tonder

Not a bad forward pack. Watch out for Chris Cloete. How the Stormers let him slip is just unthinkable.
