Holy crap. That was horrible to watch for so many reasons! From the first disallowed try (that the TMO looked at once from a crap angle that still looked like a try) I kind of knew it was going to be 'one of those games'.
If I thought it was possible in the modern day to 'pay back' one nations teams as a get square for an earlier game then I'd reckon that's what it would look like. I've only just finished watching that abomination though so ill decide later when I've calmed down whether I think that's actually possible.

Everyone calm down.

This is not some conspiracy against touring teams.

Every other week they go nuts in SA because of a decision in Australia or NZ ionvolving a local ref and an SA team. Non-neutral refs is a recipe for disaster.

If it's not your team on the short end of the stick you move one and don't pay it any more attention.

Until we have neutral refs this will continue.

But it cuts both ways (all three ways in this case).

To suggest conspiracy is ridiculous.

At least in this case the right team won. As was the case with the Rebels. Neither the Reds or the Stomps deserved to win. The end.

But if SARU can't wake up to neutral refs they are truly in cloud fucking cuckoo land. Until such time we'll have a whinge fest after every other game. One thing is sure - bad calls are not going to go away.

That's a bit silly really.

And besides, everyone else in SA hates the Stormers. I love it when they squirm.

What's silly? The conspiracy theory? Yeah possibly. I was just echoing what a few people had mentioned in the earlier pages. I haven't made up my mind on that bit.
I don't think the first part of my post was silly though.

We had a power blackout last night so the game did not record - therefore I will not be able to watch it.

By the sounds of it I guess I should feel pretty good about that.

Yeah give it a miss Gel. I found myself fast forwarding through bits of the 3rd quarter and most of the last 20mins. If you've ever watched Rugby with me you would know what a massive statement that is on how the game was going.
Maybe watch the first 1:30 so you can see the first disallowed try and once you have experienced the frustration of that you can turn the telly off. It just defies belief how that one was ruled no try.
It went downhill from there.

Re the first disallowed try and the "obstruction" Yeah Davies probably knocked it on anyway, but how soft was that call ? There is and always has been 30 big blokes on a field and you are supposed to have the necessary peripheral vision and agility to move around in between them. The cheetahs player just ran into the Red, who did not alter direction or block his path intentionally in any way. The ref had a good view - the touchie had no worries. If the ball went over the touch line and not the try line - no TMO and guess what - no obstruction. Just like the 10 or more similar incidents that happen in every game !!! Refer all blacks - Israel Dagg and co make a living counter attacking between "retreating" Richie and co - have for years.

As for the forward pass, I saw on this site a couple of years ago a great video presentation which every ref, TMO and touchie should be forced to watch every week. If you are running forward fast, and pass the ball back, it will move forward to the eye of the stationary observer. It is not cheating ...... its PHYSICS ....FFS.

I actually thought first call was dead right, I never thought Davies forced it, and to be honest after watching the obstruction, I know it had no affect on the try, did noone think the Finger brothers should get a bollocking as they both, especially Saia moved off their line to block players ......dumb,dumb dumb!!!!!

That was just horrible. Both teams played some fantastic rugby and credit to them. Credit to the Cheetahs on the win. They were outstanding and if there is any justice in the world they deserve to be playing finals footy this year. Congratulations on clean sweeping the Australian conference is in order for them also. Joubert was OK apart from a couple of things but that has to be expected from any ref in any game when you put the amount of detail he has to observe during a game into context. Especially one played at that pace. Assistants and video ref never seem to be held accountable for the much easier job they have to do. Some of the video ref's decisions still have me scratching my head.

Despite the loss I am proud of the intent the Reds played with. Some players dropped their heads in the second half which is a bit dissipointing.

I also thought the commentary was sensational. Those blokes just talked about rugby and the game at hand. No bias shown at all and they did their research before the call. Surprised how accurate they new the recent history of Ed Quirk as I doubt he is a household name in SA. I thought they were a pleasure to listen to and actually added value.

Morahan would be my first choice 15 for the rest of the year. Lance is solid but adds very little to the attack, he should be closer to the action. Apart from falling off the one tackle Cooper did well again in defence.

Moz will add plenty to the Force. Really hope he does well.

I almost always dismiss accusations of referee bias as I know that referees are professionals etc.

That being said, something needs to be done about Veldsman. The man has history of being full of shit.

- 2010 denied the Wallabies a very blatant try at Loftus said it was short.

- 2011 SAID AN ALL BLACKS TRY WAS FORWARD WHEN HE WASN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO RULE ON EVENTS BEFORE THE TRY LINE

- and now.

Cheers Veldsman. Biased - possibly.

I don't think the reds were that hard done by. 50/50 calls didn't go their way, but when you play on the gain line like they do it is going to happen.

The fact is the reds let in two soft tries and bombed multiple opportunities themselves. That is why the cheetahs got the win.

They say the harder you work the luckier you get. Well the reds worked very hard last night and had piss all luck.

I thought Joubert only made a couple of small mistakes, he was pretty decent otherwise. Thought Veldsman was wrong on the genia try, thought he should have looked at another angle on the first try, and the Cooper try could have gone either way.

But even that wasnt what sunk the reds, they lose because they just couldn't convert the half chances, and most of the time it was just bounce of the ball stuff with an open line.

Well done to the Cheetahs! Only going to get better next season with Goosen back.

With refs, I think Hanlon's Razor applies, and should apply unless there is evidence otherwise.

Reds were their own worst enemy, sure some calls didn't go their, but the finishing wasn't there and the Cheetahs defended very well. Some games things just don't go your way, and to be fair the Reds have had a few of those coming this year. Unfortunate that it happened against the Cheetahs, who are a top side this year.

It doesn't help when some of their big players - Genia, Horwill, etc are clearly off their game. I think that Link would've been better off benching Genia with 15 to go to bring on Lucas to give him a rest.

Did not know everyone in Pretoria class as everyone else. I know most of the Blue Bulls team don't hate the Stormers as most of them come from WP.

3 disallowed tries.... bit disappointing. I actually thought the first three were okay and Lucas' try should have been disallowed. Very peculiar. Morahan's try was a try... dead set. That was such bullshit.

I feel it would have been a much better game if reds had a bit of luck & could get into a bit of a rhythm. Will Genia played awful. Quade was okay. No one stood out in the forwards. Chris F'Sautia was probably the best of the backs in my opinion, few line breaks and looked dangerous.
