The CC ending over the weekend and back to business for the Cheetahs. The Cheetah franchise is made up by Griquas and Cheetah CC provinces and this year both provinces end up in 4th spot in the CC. Myself thought Griquas deserve that semi spot more then other province if you took in account of their budget and player stock which they have to work from. This year the Cheetahs Craven Week team, U19s, U21s & Senior team play in the finals. Now geopragy wise they are the smallest , contracted players wise they are between third to fourth last but it all end up to having the biggest rugby factory in Grey Bloem and a rugby culture that sure is second to none and top drawer. This Tin Ear learn from a young age to play rugby and their strongest point is consistency and continuity. Their cycle start two years ago when they lost nearly all their experiense players and will go next year in the S14 only losing Richardt Strauss (NH), Fabian Juries (Stormers) and JL Potgieter (Bulls)

Cheetahs Training Squad

Backs: Hennie Daniller, Riaan Viljoen, Danwel Demas, Bjorn Basson, JW Jonker, Robert Ebersohn, Philip Snyman, Wilmaure Louw, Meyer Bosman, Corné Uys, Barry Geel, Naas Olivier, Louis Strydom, Jongi Nokwe, Lionel Mapoe, Rocco Jansen, Tewis de Bruyn, JP Joubert, Sarel Pretorius.

Forwards: Kabamba Floors, Frans Viljoen, Ashley Johnson, Francois Uys, Davon Raubenheimer, Juan Smith, Heinrich Brüssow, Hendro Scholtz, Wesley Wilkens, David de Villiers, Jacques Lombard, Izak van der Westhuizen, Nico Breedt, Rudi Mathee, Kobus Calldo, Ruaan du Preez, WP Nel, Hans Grobler, Rayno Barnes, Adriaan Strauss, Albertus Buckle, Coenie Oosthuizen, Wian du Preez.

Bold = Griqua players

Can only see the Cheetahs getting better next year.

Mother of a scrum (the TH weighs 94kg but he snotted everything in front of him all year) and they have some talented backline players.

See thye signed Monty Dumond from the Sharks on loan.

They will be very competitive and look to have build more depth. That big munter who played 7 in the Currie Cup final is finally a good backup for Juan Smith.

Squad seems much stronger than in years gone by.

I'm picking the Cheetahs to win their very first match outside of SA this year. Big things await.

Not sold on their inside backs and depth in backs yet. Think that will keep them in the bottom half. They need to translate their strong CC showings to the S14. In saying that, they look better than last year.

Frans Viljoen, sure is a tough player. Pretty sure the Cheetahs have the best loosies in S14 rugby.

Glad to see another Paarl Gym boy getting the nod , nr 2 Hans Grobler. Hans was in my oldest boys class and one big piece of meat. Hitting the scale in the 120 kgs as a schoolboy player. Working flippen hard in his schoolboy days , every morning at 5 in the gym and pushing buses from 5 in the afternoons. Last saw him play for Shimlas in the Varsity Cup.

The Cheetahs have 3 excellent 9s, you can pick any of JP Joubert, Tewis de Bruyn or Sarel Potgieter. Tewis can play 10 also and myself think Sarel pretty unlucky not to make the Bok EYT squad. He had a excellent season for Griquas.

!0 a bit of a problem after JL Potgieter left and the SA U20 unbelievable talented Lionel Cronje was poached by Rassie for the Stormers. They still have Naas Olivier who play a few seasons for the Stormers, myself never been a Strydom fan but they still have backup with Du Mont and the other Ebersohn Twin, Sias. Think Sias will end up in the 10 jersey in the future. Tewis de Bruyn and Meyer Bosman can play 10 if needed.

They got some very good midfielders in Bosman & Geel from Griquas & two SA 7s Bokke in Phillip Snyman and Robert Ebersohn plus the x Stormers 13 Corne Uys. Geel a big unit and his change to crack the S14 level. So is JW Jonker.

Wings, well plenty. Nokwe and the find of the CC Mapoe, Rocco Jansen the x young Bull wing plus another x SA 7s player the Paarl Rasta Demas.

Fullbacks: Daniller has been solid all season but surely Riaan Viljoen making the EYT midweek team a fantastic player. He can slot in 15, wing, midfield, 10 and 9. One of the nippyest runner with ball in hand and saw him slotting drops from halfway in the CC.

Oom Paarl is totally sold on the Cheetahs dept and skills of this Tin Ear backline and 10 the only problem position in my view.

Haven't really seen the 9s you mentioned.

Not sold on Bosman yet. He needs to stop falling off tackles in the S14.

Think Snyman and Uys will be good for them.

I like the look of Daniller though, from what I have seen. Nokwe is good, when he's not injured. Think Demas needs some consistency. There is definitely not a problem with their starting outside backs - they are quite handy.

Might all be moot if they can't find a decent 10, though.

The 3 nines all played last year for the Cheetahs during the season. Sarel Pretorius played for the Royals vs the BIL and nearly orchestrate a win in the your opener for the Royals. Havent played one bad game all season.

You sure know Ebersohn? He is our next most young talented player in SA. Forgot to mention Basson, one of the top try scorers for Griquas in the CC and myself thought the Brutes poach him to replace Habana.

Think there is nothing wrong in the Cheetah players quality, its more in the head, something similiar the Wallabies test team have at the moment. That will only get better through experience and they'll get there.

Just been announced Skipper Bardenhorst from the Sharks has signed a two year contract with the Cheetahs and will start in Osfontein from 1 January.

Well at this stage that would be amazing for them to win a couple on the road.

I think they will probably finish mid-table. The difference is there is more depth and they started well last year but injuries killed them.

I still have my doubts whether their coach has the ability to make another step up from CC to S14...

True, hope he sort out his Doost problems of the past. Think Dawie Theron is a much better bet.

You've watched Lord of the Rings, Oom?
No way to long for watching. Fell asleep long before interval. The kids love it, but myself will stay awake for rugby in NZ, not the movies.

Yep look like pretty much the strongest team the Tin Ears can field except Wiaan and Bosman in 12.

Watching the preditions, most put them wooden or close to wood spoon, this team is going to surpriuise most.
