Last time I checked, both teams play in the same conditions.
I'm not claiming they played on different fields or that there's some grand conspiracy - I'm saying Waverley agreed to conditions they’re consistently terrible in. It wasn’t shady, it was just stupid. They never should’ve said yes.

Trinity had inside knowledge it was meant to rain on friday night, also picking a shoot sheild ground with sub par lighting just to put waverly at a disadvantage. Should be looked into.

Well, this has all gone pear-shaped pretty quickly.

I've looked back over the posts and I don't see any "boasting" over Trinity's win. I do see a lot of excuse-making from posters associated with Waverley. In my view:

* Yes, Waverley has more depth than Trinity. And always has, although I have to admit that my knowledge of this is limited, since it only goes back to 1973.
* I am happy to agree that if this Waverley team played this Trinity team five times, Waverley would probably win more than it lost.
* I don't care where Waverley's players come from. You play against whoever turns up, you do your best and you don't complain.
* Waverley is always strong opposition. I wouldn't put it past them to put up a real challenge to Barker.

But I also think that knowing how to lose is as important as knowing how to win. You lose with good grace, and you learn lessons from it. So, for example, "the dim light didn't suit our style of play" is an excuse. "Maybe our team should adapt better to new conditions" is a lesson. "We dominated the scrums and lineouts but didn't score points" is an excuse. "Maybe there's a problem with our execution" is a lesson. "Trinity got 29 penalties" is an excuse. "Could there possibly be a problem with our discipline?" is a lesson. "The better side lost" is an excuse. The lesson would be, no matter how good you are, it's how well you play on the day that counts.
Hello Snort, I always look forward to your astute opinion!

In this case I do think you are a bit too sterile/lawyer like in your assessments, and you well know that I mean no harm, it's just my view.

All of your counter positions are quite possible BUT rather lemonade imo, as in real life, YES it could be that way, but more often not as simplistic.

I did have a rant on the AAGPS thread about the ref, based on a Waverley teachers view. who I know well, and assuming the penalties to Trinity were 20+ it is understandable to think one team got wiped out of the game. Yes it could have been the Waves team fault, but I did also hear very reliably that Trinity did a great job being on the boarder line of being off side much of the match, and as such, they were able to bustle the Waves all night long. What does need to be acknowledged is that Refs are human and do make mistakes, to suggest everything is the fault of the losing side is incorrect. Being a ref, as I have always said, is extremely difficult, and most often unrewarding, so cut them a LOT of slack.

Bottom line in regards to this game, I did also speak to a number of parents in the 1sts team who all said the same.
The Waves clearly thought they would turn up and win BUT Trinity turned up AND wanted to win, and Trinity deserved to win.
Thus the final result, and you know I know that from 1979!

The comp is now wide open, an astute comment made by the Ghost of R/View man, he is right.
I do suspect that Barker now have it to lose after this round BUT beware the wounded Wave!
Character now required, time will tell.

Red card to Barker 12 the worst tackle I’ve seen in a long time.
And his body language after was alarming; similar to Sanix footage; needs to have a long hard think about crossing the line from impressively competitive to counterproductive territory… no CAS judiciary and is up to Barker to impose any sanction?
