Barker heads off to Japan this weekend to play in the Sannix World Youth competition. The Sannix Cup is probably the top tournament for school teams in the world. For those unaware this tournament is only for schools teams. Sannix and the JRU invite 8 foreign schools to compete against 8 domestic school sides in a one week tournament. Invitations are extended via each countries national body. In the past, school teams have come from the UK, Australia, Sth Africa, New Zealand, France, Wales, Fiji etc. Australia has been represented in the past by Kings, who won the inaugral tournament in 2000, Waverly in 2019, and St Augustines last year to highlight our most recent attendance. Applications are made through the ARU, with the team nominated needing to have had a strong year in the preceding year and good prospects in the current year. WLF, maybe you can shed more light on this tournament as Waves did pretty well in 2019 I recall. It is a tough schedule with 3 pool games and then potentially playoffs all in the space of 9 or 10 days. Barker is sending a squad of 30 players along with staff and coaches for this years tournament. They arrive back in Sydney 36 hours before playing Shore in the curtain raiser for the Tahs v Reds game in May.

Waverley lost in the semi-final to Paul Roos Gym 41-21. Paul Roos are considered one of the five heavyweights in South African schools rugby along with Grey, Affies, Paarl Boys High and Paarl Gym.

I remember Paul Roos smashed the top NZ side by over 50 in the final. If South Africa send one of their top 10 schools they will be pretty hard to beat.

The local Japanese team won last year for the first time. Beating a very impressive top 30 from St Augustines. The final was their only loss all year.

Cranbrook 1sts and 2nds results from the weekend anyone? And if anyone can get together a team list would always be appreciated, coming from a Shore Supporter who wasn't seen Cranbrook in a few years, would love to know a bit before tomorrows match up.

Team list for Cranbrook above; should be an interesting hitout this Friday. This matchup will give a good idea of what is to come for both teams this season.

I've got the boys in white by 5

I'd have to agree, not too familiar with the shore team but know that cranbrook yet to fire with the team they have this year, think there a bit new as a group and need some more experience so this game shoud be very beneficial for them. Should be a good game none the less, brook by 14
