Well, no. St Aloysius doesn't need to be "improved". It's attitude to Rugby is just fine. It has a very small number for boys for whom the sport is suitable and it seeks to provide them with the chance to play the game recreationally. The problem is that they should be playing against other schools with the same attitude (High, Grammar and so on) but we're somehow stuck in groupings that were formed in 1889 and 1930... it's just so dumb.

Macca Singh captain of 3rd XV at Waverley College has suffered a knuckle injury on Saturday and is out for the season. Very big blow on Waves Rugby as the fullback stocks reduce.

To be honest - there is no obvious solution
it comes up; everyone has their ideas, and all the ideas come with problems, and the conversation dies down again.
Leave them as is
but have a 3-week postseason knockout by division
Division 1 -1/4 finals
GPS 1st Place v ISA 2nd place
CAS 1st place v GPS 3rd place
ISA 1st Place v CAS 3rd Place
CAS 2nd Place v GPS 2nd Place

Its nothing short of heartbreak to see such a young player fall victim to such a gruesome injury. Inside scoop coming out of Waverley is that he will play against Trinity.

I think one proposal is that CAS and ISA play their respective competitions and then the top 3 from each go into a 6 team Div 1 and the remaining schools (7 I think?) go into a Div 2. This preserves the traditional association competitions and then provides more a more evenly matched competition for schools to end the season.

It's a great concept in theory but, AICES and CCC don't run weekly competitions, CHS sport only runs on Wednesday afternoons (and only in a few areas where rugby still has a meaningful presence), and the biggest but of them all is that at the moment GPS refuse to become involved (which is their right). So it's just ISA and CAS at the moment who are interested.
None of this is meant as a criticism of the concept, just the on the ground reality.

Most likely Oakhill and Auggies move up based on recent program development and size. This paves the way for Aloys and Trinity to move down culminating in a 2 tier competition with fluctuation possible I suppose. It would make every game tighter which improves player development in smaller programs and creates a much more formidable competition which would be on par with the prestigious AAGPS. Again, nothing confirmed.

This is an Aloys issue.
left field idea - comps are formed on the prior years 16A/Bs results?! Encourages schools to focus their programs earlier, not rush (too many) young kids into opens, etc etc....

All the utter tosh coming out of this forum regarding the ability of the Aloys boys enrages me. The notion that they should be "demoted" to a weaker tier is disrespectful not only to the boys of the 1st xv, but CAS rugby lovers everywhere. Without the inclusion of Aloys in the CAS, we would have been robbed of what some have dubbed "The Miracle at Death Valley" in 2019, not to mention the numerous boys who have contributed to winning CAS representative sides in the past (more CAS players than Cranbrook and Trinity this year
). Those who still doubt will be silenced after this weekend's round of footy, as Liam Price's soldiers prepare for a total emasculation of Trinity in front of the fierce Blue and Gold army.SirScrumsAlot out.
Had Trinity beaten Waverley in the last match of last season, they would have been joint premiers. But that's not the point. We need a Rugby competition organised by (primarily) the numbers of teams each school fields, and the approach of the school to Rugby. Schools who don't 'recruit' can play other schools who don't 'recruit'. Schools with four teams in each age group can play other schools with four teams in each age group. Whether a particular school had a good team in a given year isn't a test of anything meaningful.
