In response to a few posts -
Joeys v Barker. It was new boy Quinn #12 Y11 who set up early try and then kicked conversion from either sideline. He was very good. Not sure comments about Joeys potential to be a force this year can be made based on this game. As the author wrote, Joeys lack forward size they have had in previous years. Early injury to Barnes their fullback, which may be serious could really hurt them if out for a while. He was destined (in my opinion) for further honours.
Kings. While one tends to expects Joeys and to an extent Newington to be contenders most years, good thing is that hopefully each year an age group will come through from another school to challenge. Scots I feel don't have the quality last few years but sure will be hard to beat at home. Riverviews chances are being talked up and they do have some quality backs in particular. Kings have been relatively strong in the current age group and blooded 8 or 9 year 11s in last years firsts. Peitsch will be a standout at #8, supported by big #4 in Brown and a few other handy forwards. Orpen #12 been a recognised performer at all levels will be supported by Anese #13, who should be a big improver and big lad with some pace. Miller at #15 has good rugby genes and was solid last year in 1sts. The big weapon could be Osborne who cut Cranbrooke up early at FB. Kings scored final try against Brooke when down to 13 players after yellow cards.
Apologies for the GPS diatribe but think we should keep in mind CAS U16 victory over GPS two years ago. Slaven and Dainton, who were in that CAS team, I think exceptional players and will lead Alyo's around well. Basson a proven type at Knox but Armstrong I expect to see in the CAS team this year has also been one of the best of this age in all forms will be well supported by Bosch.
