Interesting result in knox v brook 16As.

Unless I am mistaken ... Knox has pretty much put on an unassailable lead in 1sts, but in 16As and 15As knox might also be leading, but waverley are in close contention

And with Cornish to eventually return and with the tadgh murphy centre experiment finished ... Should be some interesting rugby left in the nursery, after a hiatus

A quality Aloys v Knox video

What a great highlights reel. Although within the first 45 seconds there are two obvious shoulder charges from Captain America. Definitely not the sort of play Knox needs, particularly if they want to fulfil their potential this year, which will require all 15 players to be on the field...

Hi Hitman,
In this forum we do not put down specific players from specific schools. If you actually watch closely he attempts to use arms in those tackles which deem them legal. Also the referee was within the vicinity of those tackles and saw them first hand and deemed them legal. Thank you for your opinion but again don't target individual players for there so called 'wrong doing'.
Regards,
Jonesy

In my own opinion I think the selectors did a good job. The toughest decision was always going to be the number 10 jersey since dainton went down. I thought that robert sitene was going to get the call but the selectors went with Thompson which is fair enough as he is a talented player. The most interesting option was Darcy Searl from cranbrook. He might actually be the best overall player but his production has suffered playing for the bottom placed cranbrook. He has shown the ability to dominate when playing with good players for NSW country so he might have been the best fit for CAS to win the representitive games. In saying this though his ommison was completely fair as the CAS selections are earned by performances in the CAS games. The forward pack should be dominant with a few guys who are serious NSW 1s and potentially schoolboys players in Mclennnen, Swinton and Chapman. I think Harry Mclennnen is probably the most dominant player in the competition. When he takes it off the scrum or sets up in the backs I haven't seen anyone tackle him one on one. His man to man tackling has been superb this season and despite earning 2 yellow cards his discipline has been a lot better this season and he has taken his leadership role to heart constantly communicating on the field with his teammates. Harry Chapman is probably the second best player in CAS, a born leader (school captain, cricket captain, rugby captain) who doesn't try anything flashy. He is a consistent ball runner and breakdown specialist who also thrives tackling. Lachlan Swinton is an interesting player. I think in attack he often relies too much on his physical abilities as he runs with poor body height and often has problems with ball handling skills however he is the best defender in the competition. He makes all his tackles and has great work rate while being a huge presence in the knox lineout. If those 3 players fire then CAS should have a lot of success in these representative matches

Perhaps you have a different definition of a shoulder charge - both tackles involve arms and the shoulder did not appear to be the point of contact.

It was anyone's guess which way the selectors would go with the scrum half and fly half positions.
As it turned out the 9's from Aloys, Waverley and Knox; and the 10's from Barker, Trinity and Waverley were preferred.
A good argument could have been put forward if any of those players hadn't been selected.

As with just plain right dirty play after the line out at 2:35

I hear Waves 15As went down by a point to Aloys yesterday. With Knox undefeated after five rounds will be hard for Waves to run them down from here. Anyone know result in W v A 16As?

Waverley won the 16As.

Guys

We all need to appreciate that there will be some juvenile behaviour at times in these games because the players are all juveniles. I reckon everyone posting here would have done something on the footy field that they're not completely proud of,= even if it was a lonnnnnnng time ago for some of us. Probably not much point discussing kids being kids here. Let's talk about the footy instead.

I agree both the shoulder charges (and whoever thinks their arms were used needs a lesson on tackling) and the incident at the line out are highly questionable and should have been penalised.

You obviously don't watch enough rugby to understand what a shoulder charge is. Arms are present in both tackles. And the referee was in the frame of the filming to show that he saw and was at a close presence. He would of penalised if deemed a shoulder charge.
You obviously are one deemed to be unfit to comment on this forum.

Watched Barker v Trinity.
As the score indicates,an exciting game.
A match of two halves.
Barker playing smarter Rugby in the first half, playing to minimise
the physical advantage of Trinity, played clever ,mistake free football, designed to draw the Trinity defense in to the rucks & mauls ,then quickly switching the ball out wide, where they were able to outflank the opposition & find an overlap on the wing.Trinity ,in contrast, not so clever, were pushing the pass to supports who were quickly overwhelmed by the rapidly advancing & hungry Barker defense, resulting in plenty of lost ball & turnovers.
Trinity clearly eager to use their power were for the most part ineffective, with one notable exception when the ball was transferred out to McLennon, who spent much of the time standing out in the backline,& who was able to make a devastating run through 3 attempted tackles,& score under the posts from 35 metres out.
Of significance in the first half, was the loss of James Wayland 12 minutes in,who after making a crashing run down the sideline to score a disallowed try , experienced a knee injury, forcing him to take no further part in the game.Trinity seemed to become quite rattled for a time after his departure from the field.Barker dominated possession & the penalties in the first half & went to lemons looking the better team
In contrast, there was a complete turnaround in the second half, with Trinity gaining significantly more possession by playing a much more structured & controlled game, resulting in ,not surprisingly,a string of penalties & favorable field position.
Midway through the second half ,Trinity no.12 Jordan Morris sustained a serious ankle injury, necessitating his removal from the field by ambulance,& resulting in a complete reshuffle of the Trinity backline.
Trinity hit the front after sustained second half pressure,by scoring a try in the corner followed by a marvelous conversion from out wide by Ryan Longville, his second such conversion for the match.21-20
Trinity were then in a position to hold on for the remaining 5 minutes on the clock ,for victory. However, following an errant lineout throw by Trinity 35 metres from their own line,Barker regained possession & worked their way down field & looked certain to score in one of the many attacking sorties from close to the Trinity line.Of note was the Barker refusal to take 2 penalty opportunities,& instead opt for a hoped for try option, linout & scrum.
After an extra 8 minutes of injury time ,the referee called a halt with Barker still camped only a few metres out.
An extraordinary & exciting finish.
Of note in this game for me was the excellent controlled & virtual mistake free attacking Rugby by Barker in the first half & tremendous defense ,particularly in the second half when Trinity had a wealth of possession in Barkers quarter.
Trinity, when they decided to play more controlled Rugby in the second half, always were dangerous, except of course in the closing minutes when the roles were reversed,& they in turn displayed outstanding defense.
For Barker, their outside backs played clever controlled Rugby,in fact there were no bad players for them ,whilst for Trinity it is hard not to mention the contribution of McLennon,& in particular, Longville.

I think some of the selections might surprise people but overall I think a job well done. Also big congratulations goes to Slaven (A) who got selected at outside despite playing out of position for the last couple of years at St Aloysius due to lack of depth. He has been selected at state level multiple times at 9 and brings great versatility being able to cover the 15 spot as well
