Great, thanks for being the bearer of good news.
I can't wait to see him again,I will be at QP,, my younger boy is playing at QP tomorrow.
The 15s have escaped to Shore.

Will let you know how how tremendous he is, can he move on to soccer!

how did our mate in the middle go? I hear he did the 16D and 3rd XV yesterday at Death Valley....

When does the opens team get announced? I know the 16's are announced on Monday for trials. Will be interesting to see an opens team! Any rough ideas on what the 1 and 2 team could look like?

Schools total:

Barker: 10
Knox: 8
Waverley: 8
Cranbrook: 7
Aloys: 6
Trinity: 6

Barkers 16’s team looking very strong with those numbers. Who have they played and results so far?

if its the same as last year its school coach nominated, performance of team isn't a factor

CAS website says this:

“CAS Selectors will be viewing games across the preseason and a squad of boys will be select to attend the CAS U16 trial day. The squad will be announced on the CAS website on Monday June 4th.”

Not sure if it’s the old coach model these days after the issues a few years ago. They might have input to the best players and selectors nominate the players they want to see from there?

Any predictions for CAS 1st XV?

Here's an outsiders (GPS supporters) view. Apologies for any misspellings. Also, no Cranbrook or Aloys players, only because havent seen either play. Although i reckon some of my picks would be certainties and most should make 1s or 2s.

1. Not sure, but possibly Ginis (T)
2. Pollard (B)
3. Lambert (T)
4. Flaherty/Dring (both B)
5. Rice/Whiteman (both W)
6. Reimer (B)
7. Molloy (W)
8. Morretti (W)
9. Tejcek (B) / Chambers (T)
10. Edmed (T)
11. Not sure
12. Hutchinson-Walters (W)
13. Ilias (T)
14. Galloway (B)
15. Kitchener (B)
.

Some players from alos should get a look in this year from the sounds of this thread, it sounds like multiple forwards and backs have performed well such as Rahme, Ryan, Spalding, Westbury and Pollack but time will tell when they start shaping up against stronger CAS schools.

I would be thinking about Pollock (A) as the 15. Has played lots of 15, and has good speed. Also Kitchener has not played many games this year due to injury and speed a question mark in any case.

At the risk of being controversial, its a pity Nercessian (B) is ineligible for selection as he has been dominant at 12.

Fair enough. Mine is just a list of players who stood out for me from the CAS v GPS games I've watched. I thought Kitchener had a great game v Joeys.

Fair call. It’s hard on the players from teams who haven’t played anyone strong yet like Cranbrook and Aloys. At he same time, selectors have to respect players who are doing it in tough games week in and week out like Barker, Waverley and Knox (albeit struggling with it this year).

After watching the Trinity/Newington game I have concerns about the Trinity props in the scrum. It would be a long day at the office if CAS can’t win their own ball at scrum time.

Kitchener does offer some electric play in attack though. A worthwhile consideration.

Why can’t Nercessian play?

Running_rugby_1954

Ron Walden (29)
Nercessian can't play in CAS because he turns 19 at the end of this year, he's too old.

A strange decision - assuming that was approved by a committee?

Does that mean u16’s can’t play in opens? From a safety issue perspective 15 year olds playing against 19 year olds is dangerous and a potential media scrum if there is an injury as a result of that.

If Barker win - assuming the CAS website will say *denotes u19 players from Barker allowed to play in competition.

I'll give it a go from the comfort of my GPS Armchair. Apologies for any "howlers" having not seen Waverley or Cranbrook play. Relied on match reports or incumbency for the Waverley Boys
1. Frear (K)
2. Pollard (B)
3. Lambert (T)

15. Kitchener (B)
16. F Spalding (A)
17. Ginis (T)
18. Kablau (K)
19. Yates (K)
20. Pollack (A)
21. Westbury (A)
22. Chambers (T)
23. Rechner (K)
So by school in squad (B) 6, (W) 5, (T) 5, (K) 4, (A) 3

they lost one with the feed, when the starting props were on. And that was from a terrable feed , they won 1 from a tight head also in first half.

The stats may show that, but the position the tight head props ends up in is concerning during that game. And that’s the loose head Prop he will be up against. I don’t know who else can go there as it appears there aren’t a big group of talented props this year like last year.

It will be hard to get front foot ball off the set piece and that will impact the impact of the potential powerful backline.

Looking through the teams, the front row will probably cause most selection conjecture. Apart from Billy Pollard, I can't think of any other certainty, but note that Malachi Hawkes has not been named in the 16s squad, so presume he is in he running for CAS 1s.
