The sports masters at all cas and gps schools have a logistical nightmare each weekend arranging games.. The ability of each team does play a part as no sports master wants to have their lads injured or a 100+ score line blow out. I recall last year Joeys did Barker a huge favour arranging a game for the Barker 1st XV against their 3rds when High pulled out.. no injuries and Barker won by 20 points but without Joeys Barker 1sts would not have played.. so there is never any disrespect playing any Joeys side irrespective of their grade.. If I was Aloys playing any Joeys team, bring your A game on the day or suffer the consequences..

very true I guess with all the hype for aloys this year it just seemed out of place. You just have to marvel sometimes though at just how deep some schools get completely blow my mind sometimes

So just heard from the mill that Aloys have been dropped to the joeys 3rds tomorrow. Bit of disrespect from the GPS schools I think.

Joeys 3rds usually have players that would be in other school's 1st XV, underestimate them at your peril. For example, James Ramm, who just played Aus u20s, was in the Joeys 3rds side for a period when he was in year 12 in 2015 before moving up to the 2nds. Joeys are playing Shore tomorrow with Joeys 4ths playing Shore 3rds and Joeys 5ths playing Shore 4ths so, as was suggested above, it is likely Aloys didn't have a fixture and Joeys put their 3rds side up for the contest.

Yes agree all good that Aloys have a real game ahead of them.
But if this is how desperate it is for a 1st XV to get a game, then things are really bad.
Thanks to the Joe boys/great school for providing a game, that is very important.
If Aloys 1sts don't win well, which from all reports they should, then some games in the CAS comp will be very tough.

Often, there is little difference between the standard of the Joeys 3rds and 2nds - because of the depth at Joeys. If that's the case this year, I would be surprised if Aloys 1sts put 50+ points on them.

Kinross 1s (with 2017 NSW backrower Donny Freeman) looking very good against Knox 2nds - up 50-5 with not long left. Too big, too strong, too fast...

Update: And 62-5 at full time.

So that gives me a triangulation against TAS. With TAS firsts losing to Kinross firsts 41-10 (I got the score wrong, but have corrected), TAS firsts appear clearly competitive with Knox seconds. Since TAS won today against Grammar firsts 24-6, I am beginning to feel more comfortable about the GPS thirds comp. I feel a spread sheet coming on to make sense of it all, though!
