And I'm sure with the Brumbies doing this for the good of Australian rugby, they probably were going to forward that money directly back to the ARU too.

TBH, I fear if the Brumbies cant get Tom up a level of two where he is forcing his way past Arnold and Enever, he will be let go and as he is not at the level required for Super Rugby, potentially lost to the game. He has been around a while, and not quite stepping up as expected after playing U20's and NRC.

So it will be a dead loss to all parties - player, teams, competitions and country.

James Horwill debuted at 21 for the Reds. Luke Jones was a bench player at the Rebels at that age. A number of tight forwards have floated around taking time to break through before they hit 22/23.

You are being absolutely ridiculous trying to justify the Brumbies selfish actions of not wanting Tom to play for another NRC team.

Enever is ahead of him who is 23 and played in the U20s in 2011.

Arnold has somewhat come from nowhere but he is 25 and more mature for a tight five forward.

Staniforth hasn't really been around a while comparatively. The NRC is exactly where he should be playing in 2015 to try and improve. If he continues to be stuck behind better locks at the Brumbies he may need to move to another team to get more opportunity.

So by your rational Tom runs round in the NRC and stays at about the same performance level as before and its rinse and repeat next year.

Should Tom not improve what would be the benefit? The Brumbies assessed he need further development not available here at this time.

Staniforth is an excellent prospect but it's a bit of a stretch to claim he's too cool for school to play in the NRC.

His shit doesn't stink and he's too good for everyone else in the comp?

He's played, what? ~ 60 minutes of Supe and started 6 times in a Vikings team that finished 3 from the bottom of the log.

The way I see it, he wasn't good enough to displace the locks they've chosen for the Vikings this season. The Brumbies were just crying about another franchise potentially getting him.

Don't worry, this is not a Brumbies attack. I believe the Force (and suspect the Rebels) have a similar approach. It's understandable from their view.

I can understand why they thought it was a good idea to have a player like Staniforth get some experience in the ITM Cup, but I think it's also quite fair for the ARU to block that move to strengthen the NRC.....

Twas do you know precisely why the Brumbies wanted him to play ITM or are you guessing it was purely for selfish reasons?

All Australians Super Rugby players should be playing in the NRC, the only exception is in the case of foreign marquee players who are also playing in Japan.

It's not just to expedite the development of Staniforth but also those players around him, he is no doubt a better player then some of the others in the comp, The higher calibre of player and skill levels across the comp will improve the rest playing around them.

Also in terms of the commercial interest of the competition, the ARU needs all the professional players it has to be playing the the comp to lift the standard to a level where fans want to watch and sponsors are willing to throw their support behind.

They want one of their full time professionals not to play NRC. No matter what, it's selfish.

The more full time professionals, the better the competition is.

Anyway, $50 for a season ticket is a bargain. Even though last year was $35, this year it includes a cap, and it also gives you 2 free drinks per home game in the Vikings Club after the game. 8 drinks plus a cap more than covers the extra $15.

Rams are offering $40 season passes. You get a cap plus meet the players, team news, clinic invites. I'd consider it but I'll like only get to two games this season and entry is only $15 dollars.

What a joke the Vikings team has become if it doesn't win the comp by the length of the straight with that team McKellar has to go he does deserve to stay a forwards coach at the brumbies cause he did a good job there but maybe he is not the right person to oversee a program like this. someone like dargaville who the brumbies got after playing for the stars last year should go back and play for them and leave a spot for a local bloke to show what he has got otherwise the comp will just be dominated by the teams that are just an arm of the super rugby franchises and local blokes here won't have the stepping stone to super rugby which this comp was meant to offer.

It comes down to Money, and whomsoever pays the pro's dictates what they will do, and where they will do it.

There are plenty who would go well at this level and yes I understand the rules around the limit of super rugby players but Robbie Coleman is out for the season so they don't include him in that 14, if he was included than dargaville might of had to of gone back to sydney and a jake rakic or jr morgan (if he wasn't injured) could play 12. Vikings have 13 contracted players in the 22 tomorrow and once tuggeranong get their allocation it doesn't leave much room for anyone else!
