I thought, since he's got an Aussie passport he'd be in the clear? I know he seems to have let himself down with us here, but he's a fine player with a good dose of "mongrel" about him. This Bath connection with Aussie S14 is becoming a bit spooky - Harrison, Salvi, Litman, and if Delve turns-up he's a product of the Bath academy - you'll be trying to pinch Meehan back off us next!
Any contributions gratefully received.

"cleanskins"................great turn of phrase!

Essentially, anyone not able to play for the Wallabies is a 'foreigner' in the eyes of the ARU>

It is difficult to comment on this issue as I am not privy to the "range of criteria" foreign players must meet.

It would be unfair if the problem is any of these:

-drug suspension (Harrison, plus he has served his suspension)
-foreign (10 are allowed)
-crap player (Anesi et al)
-played for England (Cipriani)

The Aussie passport means he won't have visa issues if he is given clearance by the ARU

players are centrally contracted to the ARU, any player who signs with a Aussie Super14 team has to also be registered with the ARU, the ARU has the grounds to deny a person

my thoughts would be that Cipriani brings something to the table. He’s a young and exciting and high profile back.

Lipman is 30, not eligible for Australia and plays a position that we need to create depth with considering Smith has retired and Waugh won’t be far behind and the Reds have had Braid playing there for the last two years. The ARU are now looking for opensides. Its good forsight. Particularly with some exceptional talents in the academies (Shaw, Gill, Coridas, Hooper, Fainga'a, etc) and OS (Robinson, Salvi, McVerry).

So is that the reason why he has been denied permission?

I'm just interested to know if there really is a system, or if it is just arbitrary.

He's got an Aussie passport. That means he is an Australian who is being denied a work opportunity for an arbitrary reason. With a good lawyer he will make a fortune from a restraint of trade case without having to lift a finger and the ARU system will be in disarray (and financially down the tube).

One of your best ever decisions Nucifora!

good point. They won't give me a contract either. I think I'll sue!

Noddy,

Not wanting to be unkind but first you have to find a franchise that wants you and asks the ARU for permission. Then and only then could you run a restraint of trade case.

This has nothing to do with restraint of trade.

I saw those words, and even if they weren't there I would have assumed you were sharing your thoughts (I tend not to write "my thoughts" at the beginning of all my posts, but it is unlikely that anyone else would want to claim them as their own anyway). So when you wrote "my thoughts" should I have read "I don't know but..."? and by asking if the official reasons are reflected in your post, have I asked a pointless question? (I am interested to know if anyone has some inisder information on the issue)

Quite aside from that, the Wallabies need to create depth at 10 and 15 too. The 'depth creation at 7 issue' an argument against Braid playing for the Reds now, and also having his stay extended. In fact 'depth creation' pretty much covers all foreigners.
