Yeah you are right Tocc, I'm pretty sure Speight is a the type of marquee player that could potentially play for Australia and Jerry could be the Full marquee player.

The exact terms for these positions escape me but it should be legit.

Best of luck to him and Fiji rugby in general. The country's a bit fucked at the moment so hopefully a strong performance next year can lift the nations spirits a bit.

Two points:

1. He obviously can't qualify as a marquee player
2. If he doesn't, I think that means they are required to cancel his contract. ARU can't make rules and then not enforce them.

Really, why not? What are the requirements to be a marquee player? I'm pretty sure being any good is not one of them.

I think the ARU has to sign off/approve of all marquee players. In the end they will decide whether Jerry Y gets to stay or not. If he does, I don't think it will be for 3 years.

I am not sure this is a done deal. All the Fiji RU guy says is that he is "willing to play for Fiji". That hardly sounds signed sealed and delivered to me.
I suspect the impact on his Brumbies deal will have something to do with the final outcome.
Having said that, though, I would like to see it. I think he is a great prospect and will continue to improve. He has only been playing as a front rower for about 4 years (he was a flanker until he came to Uni and Trevor Woodman spied him) so there is still a lot of learning to do. He is certainly strong enough and is very good around the park with his big hits and powerhouse running. He is also a very hard worker and a very humble guy who would work well in any team environment. He would be good for Fiji rugby.
