The problem is I think he wants to ay for tonga, and the tags probably said we aren't wasting our marquee spot on you, so he took the OS deal

Timani and his manager took the deal in Japan in about Rd 3 or 4. By the time he scored the match-winning try against the Brumbies he had already done a deal. Given he started the season in the Academy, I can't blame the Tahs for not commencing negotiations with him by then. Surely his manager should have asked the question first before chasing cash.

Also, we should all get rid of this "marquee" misnomer. It isn't a "marquee" player; no Australian franchise (except the Rebels with Cipriani) can afford a player of "marquee" value. We get this term from the A-League because they bring in guys like Dwight Yorke and Robbie Fowler as "marquee players". To call the likes of Andre Pretorius, David Hill, Willie Ripia, Sosene Anesi, Daniel Braid or Mike Harris "marquee" creates an unrealistic expectation. What the rule allows is to bring in someone of good standard and experience who doesn't break the bank.

If Oz teams got a marquee player, they would be able to afford the likes of O'Driscoll, Wilkinson, SBW, Chabal, Harinoroquy, etc - players who would provide marquee/turnstile value - but no Oz teams can do that.

It is not marquee... it is an international player.

Just one minor point, "Aussie" Mike Harris isn't a "marquee" player, he is Australian qualified. Ripia is a development player, not marquee. David Smith is the Force's marquee player.
