I dunno Enya but the young lot do listen some silly kak all rounder and watch it also. You just watch him play next year, they;ll forget quickly the kak he listen and watch as long as he is on a meat diet, he'll be OK.

Olivier out for two months
Johannesburg - Springbok midfielder Wynand Olivier has undergone an operation which will prevent him from doing most of the pre-season training with the Vodacom Bulls.

Olivier, who was named vice-captain of the Vodacom Bulls team for the 2012 season, tore ligaments in his bicep and shoulder and underwent an operation to have them re-attached.
It will mean he has to sit out all training until middle December, where he will start running again, but should be ready by the time the pre-season friendlies roll around in early February.

Olivier was happy to be appointed on the leadership panel, with captain Pierre Spies beating out other candidates such as fellow forwards Dewald Potgieter and Chiliboy Ralepelle to the position.

Olivier however knows the magnitude of the task that awaits him and Spies in shaping a young and talented side into championship material.

“I learnt a lot from Fourie (du Preez) when he was there but it is still a great honour to be appointed in the position,” Olivier said.

“I’ve got some big shoes to fill – if you think of the role that Fourie and Victor (Matfield) played in leading this team. There is a big responsibility to help get the new guys and the younger players in and let them adjust properly. The next two months will be vital for us.

“ It is a bit different, but looking at the guys who’ve joined us, I’m very excited about the players we have and the new players that have come in. After the Currie Cup, the younger players have adjusted well, so there are a lot of good challenges lying ahead for us.

“ It is a new challenge for us. The new guys will certainly make things interesting for the guys who have been there for a while. What is good though, is that there is a lot of competition within the team. Everyone is talking about a new era and there is a lot of hard work that lies ahead, but that in itself is exciting.”

Olivier laughed when asked about those outside Pretoria who want to write the Bulls off already. His broad smile was about as big a warning as you could get.

“You can never write the Bulls off totally, and even in the Currie Cup the younger players showed what they can do. We know Super Rugby is another level, but our coaching staff have great plans to get the guys ready.

“We all have bought into the plans and we are willing to do the hard yards in the off-season. We definitely won’t be playing to make up numbers – we want to win the Super Rugby competition.”

Bulls name strong youthful squad

The Vodacom Bulls named a strong, but youthful training squad ahead of the 2012 Vodacom Super Rugby tournament, with a new captain and vice-captain and several new faces to take the team forward as they look to recapture the title they lost in 2011.

Springbok No 8 Pierre Spies will captain the side, assisted by vice-captain Wynand Olivier in a squad that contains no less than 13 Springboks, 2 Springbok Sevens representatives and 23 players with Super Rugby experience in the wider training squad.

The Bulls lost a number of Springbok stalwarts in the off-season – including captain lock Victor Matfield (retired), vice-captain Fourie du Preez (Japan), locks Bakkies Botha (France) and Danie Rossouw (Japan), prop Gurthro Steenkamp (France), hooker Gary Botha (France) and their two Jaco’s - midfielder Pretorius and fullback Van der Westhuyzen (both retired).

Now with a new era ahead of them, the Bulls will look to a number of new recruits and young players moving up from age group level to take them into the Super Rugby competition and achieve the same level of success that they enjoyed over the last decade.

The squad includes four new players who played for other franchises in 2011 – former Stormers backs Lionel Cronje and Johann Sadie, former Lions scrumhalf Jano Vermaak and former Cheetahs lock Wilhelm Steenkamp.

The squad also includes former Clermont and Lions hooker Willie Wepener and new recruits JJ Engelbrecht (Western Province) and Jacques Potgieter (EP). Kenyan born lock Daniel Adongo has moved over from the Sharks and prop Dawie Steyn from the Pumas, while the Bulls have also snapped up SA under-20 flank Jean Cook from the Free State.

A number of SA under-20 players join Cook in the squad including Arno Botha, Francois Venter, Ulrich Beyers and Bongi Mbonambi while former SA under-20 players Sampie Mastriet, Clayton Blommetjies, Adri Jacobs and Franco Mostert also move into the senior squad.

The Bulls will forgo their normal George training camp this year and concentrate all their pre-season efforts at their base of Loftus Versfeld.

That's a really inexperienced squad. Would not surprise to see the Bulls down the ladder in 2012 and maybe 2013. Lot of potential there though in the outgoing years.

We have lost more experience than any other team for many years. I think we will be looking at a three to four year cycle before we can mount any challenge for the playoffs.

And we will need a different captain. Not a ruck watching, musclebound fairy.
