Talking of locks, wonder where Wilhelm Steenkamp and Klein Flippie will be heading now? Wilhelms smaller brother look like now passing Anton (Worms) van Zyl at the Stormers in the packing order. Also saw Muller (x SA U20 lock) now jolling with the Ikeys in the Varsity Cup. So plenty of depth in this position for both the Brutes & Stormers.

Wilhelm Steenkamp to join Sharks on loan

The Blue Bulls Company has released Vodacom Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp on loan to the Sharks for the remainder of the Vodacom Super 14 competition.
Steenkamp, who has 19 Super Rugby caps, will return to his Pretoria base after completion of the competition.

He will again be available for selection for the Vodacom Blue Bulls once the Currie Cup season starts.

According to the BBC’s business and high performance manager, Ian Schwartz, a request from the Sharks to utilize the services of Steenkamp, was granted and Steenkamp will join the coastal side immediately.

“Wilhelm will get playing time at the Sharks, which will not only benefit the player, but South African rugby as a whole,” Schwartz said of Steenkamp, who last year also represented the Emerging Boks against the British and Irish Lions.

“The Sharks is in need of a top class lock and we have released Wilhelm due to our depth in that position. We have no doubt that he will add value to the Sharks in their campaign.”

Botha in fitness race
Bakkies Botha should be back on the rugby field in five weeks time, but is in a race to be included in the Vodacom Bulls touring squad to Australia and New Zealand.

The tour include matches against the Western Force, Blues, Chiefs and Reds and starts on March 24th.

Botha is recovering well from an operation to his Achilles and is undergoing rehabilitation which includes swimming, cycling and gym. According to the Vodacom Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, Botha will be ready to play in five weeks.

Four other squad members will not join the team when they assemble again on Monday.

Jaco Pretorius (quad) will be ready in two weeks, with Akona Ndungane (broken leg) and Chiliboy Ralepelle (broken toe) back in three weeks. Frik Kirsten, who is recovering from a neck operation, will be back in four weeks.

Strauss has cleared Pierre Spies for action next week and Danie Rossouw has also received a clean bill of health after a neck strain.

Bakkies Botha in Toulon

Bakkies Botha: Heading for France?

Bakkies Botha arrived in Toulon on Friday to begin discussions about a possible move there after the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Botha, currently recuperating from achilles tendon surgery, met Mourad Boujellal on the Côte d'Azur for preliminary talks over a possible move.

He would follow in the footsteps of Bulls and South Africa team-mate Victor Matfield, who spent a part of the 2007/8 season at the club to help them get promotion from the ProD2.
