$12 a pint isn't outrageous for unique (you're not getting this beer anywhere else), top quality beer... and it's a good atmosphere with generally nice people..

King O'Malleys is just another rubbish large scale faux-Irish bar with standard drinks, bad food.. and the people...

Plus you don't need a screen if you're going to the game...

It's a shame Debacle is closed down because that's where you would go into the city (well, Braddon) for watching a game with good food and drinks (tap beers include Hoegaarden, Chimay, Budvar, Franziskaner amongst other European goodies).... although I hear it's moving somewhere near its old location...

Agree.... Debacle is good and is reopening next week I believe.

You do need a screen if would like to watch the early game.

I guess each to their own on the $12, but personally I don't find the beers to be that much better than your more mainstream craft beers such as squire, fat yak, little creatures, white rabbit ect. I also don't find the people at King O'Malleys nearly as bad as the pretentious hipsters that appear to have multiplied every time I go to W&P.

Yeah I have to say, I've never been to Canberra but the last time I visited an establishment that charged $12 for a beer and had no screens the "people" were the attraction.

Not sure how it works in Canberra, but up in QLD we don't call those places pubs; they're called strip clubs.

Nah, Wig & Pen beers are far far better than any of those......

Fat Yak? yuck......... Squires, White Rabbit? Meh.........

Canberra doesn't have real hipsters.......

Queensland is the only place I've been where you get topless waitresses at the airport bar.......

Classy.........

$12 a beer! I was only playing $4 before the game on Friday and Sydney is supposed to be the most expensive city in Aussie-Land!

Palu is loss for sure, Lopeti has big boots to fill this week

Good craft beers are always worth the money. Four or five of these beauties from the Wig & Pen are worth a dozen factory-produced muck put out by the two big brewers.

Totally agree, Lindo. I'm still just gently trying to get Slim riled up. Hard to tell if it's working. I wish Pat McCabe was playing, then we could have some real fun.

It isn't closing, it's moving, but I don't know where. The bloke who owns Debacle's a Brumbies tragic, a herd of Ponies supporters head down here after every home match. I'll be in Canberra on Friday, see what I can find out about their new location.

I find the Wig & Pen beers are very hit and miss.

I hesitate to state the bleedin' obvious, DH, but why don't you stick with the ones you like? Like most craft beer establishments they'll give you a free taster of anything; if you don't like it, don't buy it.

Take my lovely spare-rib: she isn't a great beer drinker, BUT, Kamberry Ale at W&P tickles her taste buds so she has one every time we go there. While I happily sample whatever they have on tap that's very bitter, or Belgianish, or stout. If you end up with a crap beer (to your taste) which you haven't sampled first, well, who can you blame other than yourself.

This is the best match thread ever. Where will the drinks be post match if debacle is gone?

Sandshoe, sandshoe, please keep the applause down or the neighbours'll complain. If I book the back section at Wig & Pen for after the match will some of youse help me populate it?

Debacle was great. Would go there post touch rugby and they'd usually show the Rugby Club. Was a lunch fave for work colleagues also.

If you want a bit of atmosphere and also want to see the early game, Tongue & Groove on Bunda St in civic has the big screen and usually has the rugby going. Quite a few "bros" work at T&G, so they've always put the rugby on in the past when I've asked.

As for the game, a lot of responsibility on AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to break the Brumbies defensive line to set up Folau who will get the ball off to runners. Brumbies defence has been very good to watch and I anticipate it will be a slog of a game and close.

Would like to see the Tahs win

Lopeti will stand up, he creates just as much havoc for the defence. Hits bloody hard.

All the attributes of a good 8 but he needs to play smarter. Seems to have positional issues and often makes a hash of it at the back of the scrum. Good potential though.

Can't help but think that this game is the litmus test for the Tahs. Win it and their confidence will take off. The pressure will be off and there will be confidence in the game plan.

Lose and you just add another layer of questions which will be unfortunate.

It's not going far - they're just moving into a new building about 100m down the same street

If it's cheap pre-game beer you're after then the Moose is the go, $4.50 pints (for Carlton Draught & the like, an extra 50c for Fat Yak). Only small screens though.

Palu is remarkably injury prone for such a powerfully built man. Is Sitaleki Timani available for this one? Wouldn't mind to see him at 6 and Dennis at 8 in Palu's absence, Lopeti is big and powerful, but does makes mistakes, and gives away his fair share of silly penalties at the breakdown.

I hope Barnes is available, our centres are very solid but very uninspiring with TC and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), and it means we can mix up first receiver a bit, give Foley a chance to run a bit wider from time to time. With abit of luck, Berricj might take the kick-offs!!!!

Shame about Palu, was hoping he could play and be shown up the big softy he is.

Brumbies are going to crush the Tahs, methinks. The Tards are too clueless in attack atm, so I can see the Brumbies choking them out for 40 mins and accumulating points and then giving them a hiding in the last half hour.

Brumbies by 20.
