nupCould the lack of spark in the attack be blamed on the return of McCabe to 12?
I still think Mowen has to look at what he's doing.Disagree completely, I thought they kicked to the corner too often
Take the points people, keep the scoreboard ticking over and you create the pressure as they have to play catch up - then the tries will happen
it was mentioned in the broadcast something about 'the controversy' of how the kings made it into the SA conference.
Can someone explain a bit of that background?
Well played, Kings. Just goes to show there are few easy games in this Super Rugby competition.
There was a previous attempt to bring a team from the Eastern Cape into the competition, the franchise was the Southern Spears. That effort failed, and caused a lot of bitterness.
The Lions had to be kicked out to allow the Kings to get into the SA Conference this year, again a lot of controversy and bitterness.
The President of the local union is Cheeky Watson, a white man who outraged the then rugby establishment by playing rugby in the coloured competition (in the apartheid era), and
who is revered by the black rugby community now, as a consequence. An attempt was made to get his son, Luke, into the 2007 World Cup squad, but Jake White refused to have him on the grounds that he was not good enough. That is thought to be one reason that White lost his national coaching position, even though he won the Cup.
The above is my best understanding, others with a better and more topical knowledge of the subject, please update, and accept my apologies where I am incorrect.
So, who would win, the lions or the kings.
Stellar performance by the Kings well done.
Blue how can you say "as a neutral" disgrace..
I stand to be corrected but it was not nearly a full strength Kings side. They played earlier this year, the Lions won 41-31
I can't find the lineup, but I know the Lions weren't at full strength as they had already loaned out their best.I stand to be corrected but it was not nearly a full strength Kings side.
