Brumbies 2023

Read the preceding sentence.
About Pro team moth balling school boy players?

If it is that, you bet it will happen. It was pretty clear South Sydney put the kibosh on Sua'ali'i in his final year at Kings. With the Dolphins link to Nudgee in QLD it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. I'd expect some boys to leave in year 12 to play state cup if they are up for it as it is what will pay the bills. French and Japanese Rugby have already been snooping around school boy players and this will only become more aggressive.

I hear Brumbies are in hot pursuit of Rhys Van Nek - thought he would have ended up at the Reds, hes playing good footy at the moment and would be an asset to any club.

Does anyone know when touring sides get announced? Post Club GFs would be my assumption but may indicate where some of the fringe players land for the following Super Season.

Would be a good get for the Brumbies. I'm still hoping the Reds might pick him up, but we're probably more in need of another loose head first at this point

Don't think they need to be in hot pursuit lol just offer him a contract.

I hope so though Van nonek was a great guy to have around the place when he was in melbourne by all reports & he deserves a chance. Looks like he has taken the no new contract offer from the rebs in his stride gone back up to easts & playing some good footy

Dumb question re the dark arts. Is Van Nek a Tight Head or Loosie? I saw the Brums brought up Harry Vella from the development side.

ACT have a strong core of front rowers in the system. Ignoring the obvious that is AAA and Slips I thought Kautai and Ross had good seasons. Remsy Lemisio is also a fantastic physical prospect. Haven't seen too much of his play to know much more

If the players not under contract to the Reds, then it’s not about making the Reds stronger.

Pathways should be viewed holistically across the country, just because a player is in NSW pathways or academies doesn’t mean he should play for NSW, it’s a positive when players are kept in rugby and not poached by other codes.

In Queensland the pressure of other codes is increasing, Dolphins NRL especially is cannibalizing those paths for rugby. Which will impact the recruitment for all clubs, not just the Reds. Nudgee college, once a wallaby breeding ground is now a Dolphins pathway.

Id be supportive of the Brumbies partnering with some schools in Brisbane to stabilize that pathway, as NRL clubs have done.
That's not what you originally said, was it? You said you want the Reds compensated for other teams recruiting Reds Academy players...

I'm not sure how a team from Canberra can partner with a School in Queensland, without, limiting their exposure to players from other schools, or limiting the kids at that school to one Club.

Although I'm now confused about what you are actual want to happen.

Although, doesn't matter because as far as I know it just won't ever happen, so no harm no foul.

Like I said from the start, this comment wouldn’t be received well by some Brumbies fans.

No what I said was academy costs should be reimbursed, in QLD the ‘Reds academy’ isn’t part of the profession Reds team, it’s the amateur development pathway covering U15-U20s. Maybe you’re confusing yourself with EPS, who are contracted semi-professionals

to be absolutely clear for you, I would like to see greater investment in amateur rugby pathways by those Super Rugby clubs who recruit players from them to ensure they remain competitive pathways for young athletes.

as for partnerships with schools been limiting… it isn’t.. every other code is doing it

RVN is a tighthead

Your comment was confusing, and was not received badly..,

Ok, I had assumed the Reds Academy was part of the QLD Reds, as in funded from the same kitty, probably still is as both would fall under QRU. I don't have an issue with pathways being stronger and more investment happening in those pathways, by all teams.

This doesn't change the fact that any payment to the Red's academy from any of the Super Teams probably isn't going to happen... The Red's probably don't even do it.

Assumptions are dangerous. I’m glad I was able to help you with understanding the academy structure and clear your confusion.

I agree It isn’t going to happen, because of self-interest in Australian rugby stakeholders and lack of a holistic approach to development pathways.. Sadly to the detriment of Australian rugby as a whole.

RVN would be a good get with AAA and Slips likely to move on post World Cup.

I thought Lemisio was a good prospect also but seemed to flounder in the U20 campaign. Obviously it is early but he was playing against others his age.

Massimo De Lutiis (ex-TSS) has had a good season in club football also and part of the academy.

There is discussion on the match thread along the lines of posters wanting the Brumbies to play Tom Wright at 15 next year. With both Moggy and Jack Debreczini apparently in the mix, is there any real prospect of Tom moving there? I wouldn't have thought so. Tom is our best winger and there seems to be little on offer at wing after him and Andrew Muirhead. I reckon he stays at wing for both the Brumbies and the Wallabies.

Well Mogg didn't get a lot of game time last year, was he injured? Because I recall Wright starting 1 or two games when Banks was unavailable.
Does Debrezini have a lot of game time at fullback? My feeling is that he was brought in for cover at 10, in a similar role as Iona.

I can certainly see him on the wing as I agree, he is the best winger in the team, but I also think he is probably the best fullback in the team too, so I have hope he will get some minutes there. Plus the Brumbies have always been pretty good at developing wingers quickly.

Yes, Morgan was injured at the same time Tom Banks was out.

I seem to recall Debreczini played 10 at SS level but I think he had a fair bit of time at 15 for the Rebels.

As far as Debreczini we don't know what his form is like so he is a really unknow quantity. Mogg is past it so I must say I am worried about next year as I cant see a direct 12 replacement and we seem to lack depth beyond some cameos at from 10 to 15 at his point. If I had a choice I would be going after Hodge and lock him in at 12.

I don't mind Wright at full back. Even at the Wallabies level he has performed no worse that other players that have played their recently. He seems to be work giving some time to see if it is a fit. I personally find it frustrating we again that we are judging a players performance based about about 4-6 games playing a specialist position he has no previous experience with at the highest levels of the game; and even those opportunities have been infrequent.

Wont happen, if he goes anywhere it will be overseas after the world cup.

Is the RWC before the start of next SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) season?

As per my post which expresses a personal opinion "......so I must say I am worried about next year......."

I always love a good throwaway "fait accompli" statement. Sio had desires on going to play O/S and it was not as easy, desirable nor straight forward as some think; thus the delay.
