Brumbies 2020

Congratulations to the two newly appointed Board members (both already Brumbies members). The critical challenges that the Brumbies need to face to secure their future is to connect with the younger generations. This is the key building block to build interest in the team, sport and a step towards rebuilding the supporter base and securing the future of the team. We also need to be innovative in our marketing, engagement and revenue sourcing strategies.

But alas, Brumbies Board, maybe one year you can smash the mould and surprise us all.

I hope the Board "baby" by some margin, the 31 year old Pat McCabe can help engage with our younger market's.

In a city that's being touted as the "start up" capital, is rich in innovation and successful young entrepreneurs its shame that such talent, vision and innovation is not a part of the Brumbies future. But then again, they have to be interested.

Who said rugby out of touch and stuck in the past?

Uh huh

Lonergan was probably one of Canberra's worst players in the NRC this year.

Hooker is one of the positions that seems to change the most in that transition from school to senior rugby, as kids who play there at school level tend to be built like centres. They often have to bulk up and fill out more than any other position when they move up to seniors, and that can really screw up their game.

Fair comment, but I think Lonergan will become a good senior footballer.

Was wondering that with Billy Pollard, plays more like Hooper then Latu.

Have seen him play a few times over the last 2 years and he is great in general play. Runs and hits like a league back rower and has the work rate/ethic of a flanker . Only weakness as a schoolboy has been his lineout throwing, I'm sure time with the Brumbies will sort that out in quick time.

Nomad - do you think they will persist with him as a hooker in that case? Or would he be a better prospect to convert to a flanker now while he is young enough?

Think he would only have the body shape ( read lack of height ) to play #7.

There seems to be quite a few of those running around at the moment, at a guess I'd say they will choose to develop his set piece.

Generally they need a couple of seasons in a professional program to gain the strength. Same goes for pretty much every forward.

Kata and Pollard are both positive recruitments for 2020 after watching you tube footage on both. The flyhalf position is still the biggest problem. Kata is a wreaking ball but is he a play maker? The centres with Simone, Kurindrani, and Ikitau are strong and Noah Lolesio possible bench but not flyhalf. Kuenzle is the closest thing to our best flyhalf but not ready and experienced enough for 2020 season. Disappointed he didn't get more game time in NRC as run on.

I'm confident there will be a positive move in all directions. From what I hear there are already great things in the pipeline with recruitment. Brad Thorn has started a new trend but the question is how are we going to compete with the international market with our experienced players opting for the money once their on field position is threatened by these young blokes. We need to keep mentors in our Aussie teams.
Just got back from Japan and it is interesting when taking to the England and Wales officials how their focus is keeping the older players in the game and holding back on the young gun talent to these blokes are in their 20's.
