Brumbies 2019

That said, I will say what I want to see:
  1. Scott Sio
  2. Josh Mann-Rea
  3. Allan Ala'alatoa
  4. Rory Arnold
  5. Sam Carter
  6. Pete Samu
  7. David Pocock
  8. Ben Hyne
  9. Ryan Lonergan
  10. Christian Lealiifano
  11. Andrew Muirhead
  12. Irae Simone
  13. Tevita Kuridrani
  14. Lausii Taliauli
  15. Tom Banks
And we can basically consider this our second 15:
  1. James Slipper
  2. Folau Fainga'a
  3. Les Makin
  4. Blake Enever
  5. Darcy Swain
  6. Lachlan McCaffrey
  7. Tom Cusack
  8. Rob Valetini
  9. Joe Powell
  10. Wharenui Hawera
  11. Toni Pulu
  12. Jordan Jackson-Hope
  13. Len Ikitau
  14. Henry Speight
  15. Mack Hansen
And then we have extra depth with this squad:
  • Vunipola Fifita (LHP)
  • Tom Ross (THP)
  • Cornel McInerney (HK)
  • Murray Douglas (LK/6/8)
  • Matt Lucas (SH)
  • Bayley Kuenzle (FH)
  • Noah Lolesio (FH/IC/WG/FB)
  • Tom Wright (FH/IC/FB)
  • Chance Peni (WG/IC/OC)
I expect this depth in the backline to be short-lived if it is not well managed. We have somehow survived the loss of Nic Mayhew and James Dargaville through some shrewd recruitment. If we do not rotate well, we will lose talent.

On the losing talent subject, I had a brief conversation with James Dargaville as I disembarked my flight the other night. Although he was glad to be back home in Canberra he told me he didn't know where he would be playing next. Such a shame.:(

Reds are apparently chasing him:

Queensland-born former Brumbies three-quarter James Dargaville is very much on the Reds’ recruitment list. A highly-rated player with a low mistake rate, Dargaville looked to be on the road to a long and successful Super Rugby career when he was chosen in the Australian under-20 side, but he could never quite nail down a permanent position at the Brumbies.

I might be biased, but I'd have Slipper starting. If he doesn't, I will be very surprised if he's not the regular starter by the end of the season.

Also his best days have been at loose head. Having him at 3. is a waste.

I'm pretty sure Slipper's opportunities will come at LHP but not to start over the current Wallabies' LHP. I reckon Sio will start most games and Slipper will come on early in the second half. They'll both get lots of game time.

I really wish we kept him. He was on track to be the next Bartholomeusz.

If Ala'alatoa goes down, I expect Slipper will start at THP. I also think we’ll see some rotation as McKellar tries to work out his best front row.

I very much worry about Slipper’s health. He looks a broken man this game already. I reckon his shoulder is still troubling him.

only real issue spot is 12. Pretty sure you're missing a few decent names who would be in front of Hyne and Douglas possibly.

For the rest 12 spot, Jordan Jackson-Hope & Tom Wright. Forwards looks great, backs too ... The recruiting team did a great job this year, looking forward to seeing the team take the field...

Really keen for Super rugby to start again, I suspect we're going to have a belter of a year. The last 5 weeks or so was the best rugby and Aussie side has played since the Tahs in 2014, and the Reds in 2011 before that.

Our recruiting has been superb, losing Dargaville the only exception .

I got one of their Royals beanies, and have been advised to expect one of the jackets for Christmas. Personally a big fan of what they've done for both Royals and the NRC Vikings, let's hope for a good showing for the Brumbies. That 2013 BLK jersey was a thing of beauty that they'll struggle to beat.

Simone couldn't get a start for the Vikings in NRC, so it doesn't bode well for him..........

If he doesn't start I'm not sure you can squeeze him onto the bench.

JJH was sublime and would have to be the favourite to start, but obviously some people have concerns about his size.
