Put a post up a while back saying how Jooste shouldn't have had so much expectation etc - got a few likes.

Now I just read Brumbies have signed 'Bernie Junior' Mack Hansen. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure that's the same name they gave to Jooste.

* "Nick 'Bernie Junior' Jooste out to forge his own Super Rugby career"

* "Brumbies Rugby have moved to sign 'Bernie Junior' and a towering U20s lock for 2018. #SuperRugby

But perhaps they have learnt a little bit

"The Brumbies are wary of burdening him with great expectation, especially after injuries ruined Nick Jooste's two years in Canberra after being dubbed 'Bernie junior' because of his similarities to Larkham."

Hopefully this kid gets more of a chance then Jooste did. Poor Jooste...hope he get's a chance somewhere... home at the Force would have been nice considering Rebels, Reds, Tahs and now Brumbies all have Aus u20/exu20 flyhalves in backup spots. (Stewart, Mason, Mcgregor)

So even though others employees (like the Force players who have no job and other players who have been injured all season) can't get the same deal?
Wake up to yourself you idiot. He lost out on a huge pay day because of his cancer and the Brumbies are showing compassion. The Force player's contracts will be honoured no matter what happens. As a recent survivor of a very similar condition I find this offensive. My employer stuck by me through thick and thin and I reward them with increased passion for my role because of it

As a recent survivor of two threatening cancer conditions, which my specialist has declared to be "astounding", I support your very much to the point comments Silver.

Fair comment and I will wear it. i understand what you are saying, but its not where i was coming from.

From my perspective I look at the deal in terms of the equality for players. I have no issue with Christian being given certain exceptions on compassionate grounds but where does it stop?

Behind all stories are stories. It appears having Hawera around for the NRC make made Christian surplus to requirement which was great in that it helped the deal. The really generous ones here (and suffering a little because of it) are the team that Hawera was contacted to in the Mitre 10 for 2017, the Southland Stags, who said publicity a few months ago that even though Hawera was contracted in 2017 that if the Brumbies re-signed him but refused to then release him they would not take any action as the want players to have the best chance at pro contracts and would not hinder that, rather support the player.

As it stands, we actually have a team to put onto the field:
  1. Sio
  2. Mann-Rea
  3. Ala'alatoa
  4. Arnold
  5. Carter
  6. McCaffrey
  7. Pocock
  8. Hyne
  9. Powell
  10. Hawera
  11. Dargaville
  12. Lealiifano
  13. Smith
  14. Speight
  15. Muirhead
Bench: Abel, Mayhew, Alexander, Enever, Cusack, Lucas, Godwin, Taliauli.

Obviously, I'd like to see us retain Kuridrani and Banks, and maybe recruit a better 6, but other than that I think we're done.

Think Cusack will fill the hole at 6 with Hyne also in the mix there if either of Fakosolea or Valetini make the grade at 8.
