I could be wrong about Whetton but if he's the lock I'm thinking of it was remarked by commentators that he had played Aussie U18s.

Pretty sure that guy was playing for Northland though, rather than North Harbour.

Off topic but, where does McCabe fit into the Brumbies plans next season?

I mean of course there will be injuries, but in a full backline, the only spot I see for him is on the bench.

White, To'omua, Tomane, Lealiafano, Kuridani, Speight, Mogg

Pretty awesome backline if you ask me.

I guess it depends on whether Lealiifano goes in for surgery and what they find/how bad it is.

Mogg is unlikely for the opening rounds with his recent shoulder surgery.

McCabe can play literally anywhere from 12-15 and some would argue 10 (he played some SS there). You will have at least 1 starting player out every second week, therefore he'll play plenty.

If he returns to form, and even one player in jersey 12-15 drops off, he could even EARN a starting jersey.

The lock remarked by commentators to have played Aussie U18s was Tom Murday of the Reds EPS and Northland (I think).

Whetton plays for Auckland, but again, I am only going off the top of my head, so don't hold these comments against me if they're incorrect :)

Even allowing for injuries, Patty will be competing with Andrew Smith, Clyde Rathbone and Robbie Coleman (at least) for game time off the bench. And Stephan van der Walt and Cronje might even come into calculations. Hard to see him playing every 2nd week. I think his best position and therefore best opportunity is at 15, although 12 looks to be the most vulnerable spot for the Brumbies next year.

I think that Lilo will miss the start of next season if he opts to wait till after the EOYT for his surgery? So with Mogg and likely Lilo out at the start, the Brumbies will need maybe a 12 and 15. Coleman could play either position, as could McCabe. A. Smith could step into 12, but I see him as more of a 13.

I think that McCabe will likely be in direct contest with Coleman for a bench spot, the other going to Rathbone or A. Smith.

Plenty of depth in that Brumbies backline next year, although Holmes and Prior would've been handy to hang onto.

I am fairly certain that McCabe will be picked before Coleman. IMO McCabe has been a solid but not sensational Wallaby whereas Coleman has not yet established himself at Super Rugby level.

Solution: move Kuridrani to 12, he's not fast enough for 13.
