Really a sink or swim situation for Holmes. Not a question of ability for him more about handling the pressure of a big game in the context of the Brumbies season. Winning wont guarantee making the finals but it will maintain the gap as the Reds begin to hunt the Brumbies down for the top spot in the Aus conference.

Also in a scenario where the Reds do overhaul the Brumbies it wouldn't hurt to have beaten the Canes who are one of the contenders for a top 6 spot.

The Brums & Canes are in very similar places in terms of player developement and performance, the Brums are benefitting from weaker conference though.

This match is sure one to watch.

Fainga'a could play through pain to ease injury burden

THE ACT Brumbies are weighing up whether to push flanker Colby Fainga'a through the rest of the Super Rugby season after he reinjured his troublesome foot.
Fainga'a played the entire 80 minutes of Tuesday night's 25-15 loss to Wales but pulled up sore and was rested from yesterday's John I Dent Cup fixtures.
The 21-year-old will wear a moon boot for the next two weeks, putting him at long odds to be ready when the Brumbies return to action against the Western Force in Perth on June 30.
Brumbies coach Jake White said Fainga'a would be monitored in the next couple of weeks and hadn't ruled out the Queanbeyan product returning for the run into the finals.
Fainga'a is one of two specialist openside flankers in the Brumbies squad along with Wallabies representative Michael Hooper.
''It's one of those injuries where I think he'll be fine if we push him through it, but I don't want to push him through it until I know if we need him or don't need him,'' White said. ''We'll reassess it next week, I want to see how Hoops comes along after Wallabies duty.''
White has a couple of options to use as a back-up for Hooper if Fainga'a's injury is worse than first thought.
Hooker Siliva Siliva's return from injury could allow Anthony Hegarty to be used at openside, while powerful Ita Vaea is another candidate.
Fainga'a tore a ligament in his foot in the Brumbies' trial match against the Queensland Reds in February.
He played a handful of games for the Tuggeranong Vikings before coming off the bench for the Brumbies in their most recent Super Rugby match against the Melbourne Rebels.
A decision has yet to be made whether Fainga'a requires an operation, but it is likely to be delayed until the end of the season given the Brumbies already have a reduced squad.
The Brumbies have 32 players to call on for the rest of the campaign following season-ending injuries to Matt To'omua and Christian Lealiifano, and with prop Jono Owen released so he could join the Melbourne Rebels.
Flanker Scott Fardy and outside centre Andrew Smith were rested from club duties yesterday, but both are expected to be fit to face the Force.

Colby Fainga'a's foot injury is worse than first thought and could be done for the season.

Fotu injured his hamstring on the weekend and could be out for 2 weeks.

Curses.......

After the Welsh match I hope White rethinks playing Coleman at fullback.

The guy's kicking game is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!!!

Wouldn't mind seeing Coleman at 12 and McCabe at 13. But I guess it is hard to drop smith since has been playing some good footy.

I'd like to see McCabe given a crack at 13 for the Wallabies, but I think he forms a wonderful combination with Lilo at the Brumbies and I think they've both played their best rugby this year as a 10-12 combination..

Although, Lilo could potentially shift to 12 and McCabe to 13 next year? But I guess that would depend on To'omua staying injury-free and finding form.

Loving your avatar atm, Bowside. Patty M looks like he's gotten stuck into the tinned beetroot big time.

Or he's a zombie...

McCabe is solid at 12... it would be interesting to give Mogg a good run on the wing where he'll be a little closer to the action, free him up a little also... Smith is playing well at 13 and the larger Brumbies backline are a handful for any team...

Had a chat to Speght at training yesterday. That lad is Gold Jersy material. He was resting for the arvo session but went well in the am. All should be good for Perth. The guys looked match hardened although some have had a rest. But I gather that they don't sit about on the lounge eating chips and watching DVDs.
Those that are coming off the tests look ready to run through brick walls. I guess playing Wales is a good lead up to taking it to the Force. Where as last Friday Force got a warm up at 42 to SA 0.

Commiserations to the Brumbies after yesterday. Very happy from a Reds point of view, but I would have loved to see both teams through.

Despite the disappointment of missing out congrats on a fantastic season considering the turn around from last year. The emergence of some significant talent in the likes of Hooper, Tomane, Mogg, White, Carter, Fardy etc and the form of the likes of Moore & Mowen can only be good for Australian rugby. Clearly there has been a cultural shift under White's coaching and you would think the players will only get better as they play together (excluding Hooper, of course).

Special mention to Mudskipper - I'll admit I thought some of your predictions at the start of the year were nuts (from memory even Slim did). But what do I know - you were certainly a lot closer to the mark than I thought.

This season while a fizzer at the death will be reviewed as a very successful one from a team that everyone had low expectations of at the start.

A fit Liliafano may have made a significant difference for the last few games. We will never know.

Under the White's stewardship, ably assisted by Larkham, and Fisher, this team has really impressed in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year for them.

The signs are looking good for a fine 2013 for them, even though they will be without rising star Hooper.
