Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I keep Stan and rotate all the others every couple of months. My rationalisation is, the $25/month is value for money if I’m watching it 2-3 hours(1-2 games) a week.

That’s about $2/hour that I use it, which is cheaper then the off-season alternative; dinner, movies etc which cost more

Absolute bargain for me then, I try and watch all Aussie games and a few Premiership games throughout the week. I'd be embarrassed by the hours I sink in.

yep - and I know I am in the minority, but I am still working through the classics game catalogue too.

I know they had the option in their favour but $30 mil for 2025, which includes the Lions series, seems like an absolute bargain for 9/Stan
It is for sure, and it’s a result of the balance of power that Nine held in the negotiations back when they were made during COVID.

I guess the hope is, with the new negotiations for 2026-2027, that RA might be able to renegotiate 2025 as well. Otherwise if you’re RA, you wait until 2025 to negotiate another deal and put yourself to market.

Absolutely. As it says 9 is able to negotiate exclusively but RA should listen to everything they have to offer, but be very clear they will take it to market. If you look at markets around the world the streaming options are growing year by year. I know Rugby isn't in the same league as the NFL & NBA but they are creating new avenues that other sports will be able to follow into the future.

Stan Sport price increase… genuinely makes me think about letting it go with the NRL back on. They just don’t offer enough for the price. 6 Nations is done and no other Tests for a while. Definitely won’t get anyone new to watch it.
How much is now? I pay 10 US dollars here but you have to be a suscriber what it means 30 US dollars the standard package. Total I pay for my rugby is 40 US dollars

I'm just grateful rugby is not still beholden to Fox Sports/Kayo... and it's not on Paramount or Optus...

Stan is a quality product.
Stan has issues, they still have not worked out how avoid spoiling games, often you start the game stream and they are still talking about the previous game, this is particularly painful if you have been at work and get home so you watch the next game with the intention of watching the earlier game later in the evening.

There are massive issues if you are watching on delay, it is common for the stream to stop and then skip to the live broadcast ruining the game, this has been an issue that Stan have discussed on social media since they commenced broadcasting and they still have not resolved it.

The issues watching on delay are massively painful! I watch most games delayed (putting young kids to bed) and I'm always just waiting for it to skip to the end with the final score revealed to ruin it for me

If it helps, Im in a similar boat, but, once I get in front of the TV, I just pick the start stream from beginning and fast forward to the 25-35t minute mark.

That generally gets me to the tail end of the pre-game stuff or kick off.
