How the fuck did they calculate that. Surely that's a mistake, does Matt do something I'm not aware of?
Can't you read? It says "using survey and social media date combined". Clear as!

Pretty weird though - surely JAS usurps every other play over the last 12mo. Ryley Batt, Harry Bates, Paul Skenes, and Ben Simmons all getting a mentions seems a bit odd as well.

He has only 3700 Instagram followers, but it's who those followers are that matter most

Reach and Momentum are the social media categories apparently, so it makes sense he doesn't appear on those:
Berry said an athlete’s marketability was determined by four factors: reach (a blend of survey data and social media following), interest in the person, their influence on others, and momentum, which involves looking at social media trends year-on-year.

They'll never reveal their methods (since thats how they make money) but I wonder if it's just the amount of engagement he gets online relative to his following, relative to the wider social-sphere (cesspool)?

So it excludes only domestic sport stars? No League or AFL players. Using only players with an international reach yeah I could see one or two Union boys being in the top 50.

Although the total number of games decreased this year due to the axing of the Rebels, Australian broadcaster Stan Sport reported a 27 per cent increase in its average audience across the regular season, while average free-to-air audiences on Nine in Australia grew by 13 per cent.

In NZ, Super Rugby Pacific broadcast numbers have been “flat” during the regular season, with the total audience on Sky Sport and Sky Go actually falling from 1.94 million in 2024 to 1.83 million this year.

That decrease was just covered by a 19% increase in digital viewership on Sky Go and Sky Sport Now, but the overall picture suggests that the competition has come back down to earth after recording a 12% increase last year compared to 2023.

Across the board, A Super Rugby Pacific statement also said total match attendance across the competition increased by 6% this year, despite a reduction in regular season games from 84 to 77.
