Was talking to a guy I only occasionally see but I know he enjoys his Rugby and I asked if he's been watching Super Rugby and he told me he had watched the Tahs but can't be bothered watching other teams play. He might watch some aussie games if he gets the chance but NZ v NZ games don't interest him.

I think there are a lot of people out there that may only care about their local side and from there you might only get them on FTA once a month. Hard to build much that way.

Look at this from Stan/Nine's perspective.

I've heard ad revenue for Australian sport is about $50 per thousand views of a game

Using 100k average viewers of a Super Rugby game (which we are nowhere near at the moment), assuming 4 games a month, that works out to $20k revenue per month for Nine. It's peanuts.

They would only need 500 of those 100k viewers to shift to stan at $40/month to make the same revenue.

Stan viewers are worth far more to Nine than a FTA viewer is. Driving people to a Stan subscription is what they give RA $40m+ a year for.

Tin foil hat time - I wonder if Stan also make their commercial licences obscene to make it harder for people to watch at a pub, thereby forcing the purchase of more subscriptions.

I’ve been surprised at the number of pubs around Brisbane that I would consider “sports bars” and they don’t show Stan.

I even posted on here last year that a couple of the smaller ones were even running their own dodgy sticks into a projector to stream the games instead of buying the subscription.

It would be more than that - there will be plenty of people who have Stan, but not Stan Sport. That’s the second leap they need viewers to make.

No dont think so.

I’ve looked at this previously and commercial licenses were comparatively cheap, the issue is Foxtel have a monopoly and exclusitivity agreements for discounts on Foxtel subscriptions.

They’ve tried cracking pubs previously with a deal with Sky, but Tabcorp put a stop to that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s part of their strategy to drive more individual subscriptions by making commercial licenses pricey. It’s noticeable how few pubs in Brisbane show Stan. The dodgy streaming setups show how tricky it’s become for smaller venues to justify the cost!

To put it in perspective..

Stan starts at $300/month for licensed venues, up to $500/month for >800 capacity with 10 live streams... Anything above 800 is a custom quote.

Foxtel was charging venues like RSL's $5000/month, and then you have others like Twin Towns on GC paying over $20k a month for Foxtel.

My current thinking is that Rhino is a language learning model AI project created by a university student and set upon us as an assignment. It/they are definitely improving but will remain annoying until they can have an idea of their own.
I reckon it's a shitty marketing ploy by the company of the same name (I believe the website used to be in the signature). Either way, it's fucking annoying.

Sounds like me, I don't even bother with two NZ teams playing a grand final.

I only watch games with Australian teams playing.
