I’m not going to claim to know a lot about the advertising industry but surely Nine can spice up some advertising packages by including really cheap half time ads on Stan. The zero commentary footage of a stadium doesn’t do much for me, especially in NZ where there’s no one in it.

Failing that, why not just show constant 80s footage of Peter Fitzsimmons getting belted by that French player or something.

i think it comes down to who controls the production. The Australia feeds have halftime content, the kiwi ones don’t.

You’re right though, they should be able to fill it, especially if it’s steaming into pubs etc.

Ok that makes sense, sort of. So Stan/Nine are buying the feed from Sky NZ or whatever,
but that doesn’t include their half time show, because that’s proprietary I guess? But why can’t Stan put whatever they like on for that 15 minutes?

unsure maybe Skysports run ads for kiwi tv during their halftime show instead of the commentating like Australia.

The Sky Sports is still very much a 20th century terrestrial TV setup. Specifically it goes:

> End of half
> Obnoxious ads
> Whichever commentary wounders are on duty drone on for a few minutes to shots from the changing rooms
> Empty words from coaches to try give the sideline interviewer something to do
> Start of second half

If it's an All Blacks test they'll squeeze in another painful ad break before the start of the second half. Hopefully it'll be the end of this punishing setup if/when NZR setup their own streaming service.

Thought I would check out some of the super W action but could not see matches on Stan. Are Stan covering super w
Sure are. I saw them available as replays yesterday. Watched the start of the Rebels v Fijiana while waiting for gates to open at GIO. Watched a little Reds v Force (only a few minutes) on Friday. Not sure why you're not seeing them, it's in a a teale colour when you go in to the rugby category.

Would splitting from SA to form a 10-12 team Trans-Tasman Championship provide better value for both Unions to draw revenues and interest? Could a bundle be developed that included the option of a National Club/Provincial Championship to create added broadcasting opportunities. All questions I believe a worthwhile of discussion.
Is that what happened? Lol

Wasn’t the Brumbies v Waratahs even in free to air?
Just out of interest is it always the Satueday night game on FTA? Wonder what happens when NRL and AFL start, does it make any difference? I haven't lived in Aus since Stan so don't know how it works. I was guessing why RA was so insistent on rugby starting so early, to try and get as much exposure on FTA without any competiton? Made a lot of sense to me, and I though was why the original super Saturday was meant to be weekend just gone.

I don't think it started early. The game was on at 7:45pm, the Super W was on at 4pm I think.

IMO AFL and NRL don't really make much of a difference when you look at figures but I could be wrong.

It would be interesting to find out the ratings for Saturdays both games. The crowd was small but it is understandable due to the rain.

It would. If I could find them.

NRL doesn't have any FTA games on a Saturday night, so that probably contributes to them taking that slot each week, less FTA competition.

Pretty sure the start date of the season is so early to be done in time for the July tests with at least a couple of weeks to bring the squad together and prepare. I think there will be a 3 week gap between the final and the first test which is about right, 2 would be fine but any less is a problem. Getting out ahead of NRL and AFL is a bonus but I doubt it's the reason.

Yep I meant what Phil has pointed out, early start to season.
I be honest I putting crowds down to weather too, throw in Drua/Rebels being played at Sunshine Coast, I can see why maybe there is a struggle for crowds

For a game that was organised at the last minute, I thought eth Drua Rebels crowd was decent. The stand was pretty full. Also, let's face it it was never going to get a big crowd to begin with.
