Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I usually watch on delay and have no issue catching up, my biggest complaint is that unlike all other Stan programs, the rugby does not allow me to continue from where I was last watching if I turn off the TV or hit a wrong button.

Having markups on the timeline would be good for replays - on the PC I can hit 0-9 on the keypad and it'll take me to the start, 10th minute, 20th minute etc. but nothing on the app for this.

Any evidence for any of this?

Also pretty surprised you think a large portion of people actually care enough about HD while watching FTA tv to bother doing the whole tv guide function to get to the appropriate stations

My 75 / 80 year old parents do

Enjoying having things like club rugby as watched eastern suburbs vs manly which was a cracker. Other advantage is not much risk of knowing result given not much press coverage.

This is the advantage of being a Rugby supporter. I finish work at 10pm on Friday and Saturday night and without any effort I am sure I will get home and not know the results. All of my Rugby supporter colleagues and I have an understanding not to give away the score as we all go home to watch the games.

Listened to seven morning news and sports report talked about Perth lockdown and afl and league but no mention of force vs red games. Ten years ago this would not have happened but shows challenge got with getting rugby back and part of the dialogue. These things continue to sadden me how far rugby has fallen out of favour and the dialogue. Still hopeful long term this can change - but accept need some catalysts for making major shift (eg private equity investment etc etc)

I heard from a friend that Channel 7 now have a policy not to mention rugby union at all on their network. Coming off the back of the clear decision by News Corp to do similar, and we've got two major outlets flat out ignoring our game.

To counter that, the SMH has ratcheted up rugby coverage which has been a positive. I'd argue more of the core fan base read Fairfax so that's good for them.

But man the 7/News situation is so grubby. I'm not sure it's a mortal blow to the game, but it's not good for anyone. Will be interesting to see if they acknowledge the Wallabies when they start.

Yeah the Channel 7 thing is odd, they promote NRL despite it been a sport on a rival network.
In saying that I’ve seen plenty of super rugby updates via 7News.com.au

I'm not sure if this is entirely true, as 7 Brisbane/Queensland have continued to routinely cover the Reds........... And their Perth news reported on the Force win.

I would suggest it's more due to a lack of interest in the Waratahs based on recent results, and the popularity of the NRL, the Swans, Sydney FC and other sports dominating the sports segment.

With all these things it probably comes down to balancing what they need to show from other networks in order to satisfy their viewers and keep them versus trying not to support other networks.

They would absolutely view the other FTA networks as the competition versus Foxtel/Kayo. They're not losing 6pm FTA news viewers to Foxtel.

I had a Sydney Nine News sport reporter as a housemate a number of years back, even then they were routinely covering NRL. When I asked why they didn’t cover Rugby Union back then, they said it was too hard. They would turn up for interviews and weren’t provided access to the players, or if they were it was for a short time frame or not the player they wanted, couldn’t get footage of the training, no access to change room interview etc etc. from a news reporter perspective it made hard to justify the time if they couldn’t get something interesting to broadcast.

Whereas a number of NRL clubs were keen to open their doors and invite the reporters in, and no shortage of controversy to report on or make an interesting story of.
