Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Imagine the position we could be in if we get a little bit of help to squeak by the next year or two (cap out to twiggy). Home RWC and Lions tour, more development in direct sports streaming services like DAZN/OPTUS/Twitch/Hulu?, potential time to develop own broadcast/production opportunities. I'm actually happy that COVID has brought this to a head rather than the slow death by signing a long term agreement with Foxtel.

I've not seen it mentioned on here & I've only seen the one episode but The Aussie Rugby Show that Rugby Pass are doing looks a worthy replacement for the various Fox rugby shows that I understand have been canned: Drew Mitchell, Steven Hoiles & Sean Maloney could maybe use some guests rather than the three of them rabitting on while Louise Ransome keeps things moving along but based on last night NZ time's show it's worth a look. It's also on YouTube.

I saw the first five episodes before they went onto Rugby Pass and thought it was a good replacement for the one Fox put out. But as I don't have rugby pass, I haven't been able to see more

Super Rugby kiwi and au is getting ratings of 100k in the UK, even though the matches are around 6 or 8 am
The kiwi games have always rated solidly over there, it’s been a myth for years it’s the SA timeslots that’s appealing to overseas audience, whereas it just clashes with their own content so doesn’t do as well as the kiwi matches

You know you can really tell TV station's thoughts on rugby. Was watching the 10 news (I think it was 10) on Sunday night in sports news they talked briefly about the Brumbie/Reds game, the closeness and as quick highlights they showed the end of a try from a maul, and Brumbies kicking the winning goal. It seems to be pretty consistent for what I have seen on 'highlights' on the news from rugby, it's almost as if they don't want to show anything that will excite neutral sports people.I not saying anything wrong with how the Brumbies scored, but I though I had watched a bloody good game of rugby, and a lot more entertaining than what was on show.

Yeah channel 7 didn't even mention it but spent time on the A-League, FA Cup and NBA, maybe someone at RA needs to let them know there is a competition on?

Interesting.........

Rugby Australia’s revolutionary broadcast package has reignited interest from Optus, with the telco set to land the rights to the XV-man code in a stunning coup.

Fox Sports is set to bid for club rugby only, after RA announced broadcasters could pick and choose content from their new package for 2021-25.

News Corp Australia understands the new deal will involve Optus and Network Ten screening Wallabies Tests and Super Rugby, although there is some disagreement between them regarding the finer details.

Does this mean Halloran is going back to penning rugby articles?

Fox Sports is set to bid for club rugby only,

The bit they tried to get before and Raelene headed them off at the pass.
Potentially they could do alot with Club Rugby if they promote it well.

This could be the best outcome for Rugby, if Club becomes semi pro. I will have to keep my subscription a bit longer
