Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Victoria, and to a lesser extent the 3 other footy states, have far lower Foxtel take up rates than QLD and NSW.

That's why they're pushing Fox Footy and the AFL so goddamn hard. When it's the top appeal to the 50% with far lower take up rates, they'd be stupid not to.

Note that the AFL game simulcast on FTA is actually the game on Fox Footy (Sydney v Collingwood), not the game on FS3.

The A-league game is Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC, so I guess Foxtel expect that game to get more viewers than an Aus v SA Super Rugby game.

If not for Sydney playing Melbourne in the A - League we would certainly win the ratings but that's the number one rating fixture for the A - League so it will probably just beat what Reds v Stormers would get.

if it's HD only then yes it is surely a misleading statement for them to make. They don't even have to intend to mislead / deceive, the law is very much in favour of the consumer

Desperate times call for desperate measures, its possible(through unlikely) that 10's woeful performance in prime time could cause them to make a punt for some Super Rugby action.

Network Ten has recorded its worst weekly audience share for prime time on record.
The free-to-air television network had a 13.8 per cent share of total audience from 6pm to midnight last week, placing it fourth behind the ABC, which had a 17.9 per cent share.
Seven Network won the week with a 33 per cent audience share, while Nine Network was second with a 31 per cent share.
After enjoying ratings success with the Big Bash League cricket competition, the Sochi Winter Olympics and the Australian Grand Prix, Ten has struggled to launch its general entertainment programming.

TEN is an absolute basket case.

I wouldn't be surprised if Foxtel make a play and buy TEN to get into FTA TV and promote their subscription service.

rumours before he got promoted was that news ltd were in it to buy ten, hence lachie murdoch heading the board.

That could be bad for rugby as we all know they push league and have for 15 years. Nonetheless they could also be searching for a cheap footy code to shove on the tv

I don't believe NEWS Ltd will buy TEN, but Foxtel may do it on its own. 50% owned by NEWS and Telstra.

Anyone else noticed that the NRL have joined the AFL in having online subscriptions to watch games, get stats, other updates, etc online?

Rugby is falling behind here, hopefully come the new TV rights deal the ARU will put together a decent online precence and sell online access around the world...

As I have pointed out previously, Pulver has some expertise in this area, I believe.

Going by Pulver's interview on another website, the ARU selling online access to Australian Super Rugby games and Wallaby Test matches is impossible. Or at least, under the current SANZAR arrangements it is.

Australia are a constituent part of SANZAR, why can't they bring this up at a SANZAR meeting? Something to write into the next broadcast contract, perhaps.
