Sevens has been played since 1883 and played everywhere, don't think tens has been around much longer than the 60s, and seems to mostly be confined to a handful of tournaments in South East Asia.

I love my 7's but terry j makes some valid points nevertheless. I was dipping in & out so saw less than half the games but I preferred it when teams took more of a XV's with more room approach c.f. 7's with less room. Also I think 7's will always be to XV's what T20 is to "proper" cricket, overlapping but essentially separate fan bases. Who knows, maybe 10's could carve out a niche but with 7's so well-established & now an Olympic sport in its own right it'll never be more than that IMO.

Agree on the comments about the similarity to XVs..

But that's also the strength of Sevens, it's such a a vastly different product and as far as WR (World Rugby) is concerned it's a product which doesn't compete with XVs.

I suppose there's an argument that's 10s could complement XVs, and that's arguably something which could still occur in the future with events like this..

Chiefs & Panasonic both through to QF. I'm a little surprised how well PWK have gone, geez they must have one helluva good coach :), expected them & the Samoans to be propping up their respective groups.

Who gives a fuck what the Journo's think anyway. print is a dying medium and news.com is basic click-bait rubbish. No one pays much heed to them anymore, Trump, Brexit etc established that.

Was a nice way to kick off the Rugby season again. Would have gone if it was in Sydney. Wouldn't be too fussed about the Aussie sides performance. Andrew Walker took to the field for god sake. Man is ancient. Clearly more of a throw around than a priority for all teams involved.
So media doesnt matter.. righhttttt

Think Panasonic's perhaps one advantage (same as Samoa) they have actually trained for 10s, as perhaps most of the rest are more interested in getting set for their 15s season.

One journo doesn't matter...

Plenty of other journos queried his comments in the article, enough to suggest it was a one off and isn't the general consensus across the media.

Karmichael Hunt is having a cracker of a tournament. Against Samoa he's got two try assists, some excellent kicks for touch and I think even two breakdown penalties. Reds bringing a very 15s-oriented game with breakdown dominance, although if I'm honest I think the ref is calling "holding on" on the Samoans too early and not giving them a chance to clean out.

Nabuli looking pretty good too, although he always looked good when he had space to work with, so we'll have to see if this form continues into 15s.

If the Crusaders beat the Blues the Reds should qualify... if the Blues win the Reds will probably miss out on points differential.

Yesterday just happened to be the hottest day of the summer for Brisbane, and today could be worse

So it's Chiefs v Reds & Crusaders v Panasonic in the QF?

Toulon down to 14 players v 'canes 18, suspect they'll run out've gas in the second half.

Houston has made a decision that makes no sense, and Maloney shows how much more intelligent than Horan he is.

Foul play prevents a try = Penalty Try and Yellow card

Reds Clear, and Chiefs should feel very very aggrieved.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I don't think any of Hunt, Kerevi, Slipper, Talaki, Simmons, Neville or Nabuli took the field in that game. If you add in guys like Frisby, Cooper, Douglas, Moore, Smith, Tui & Higgers that team bears next to no resemblance to our full strength side.

It's not that I don't have concerns - but that really bears no resemblance to our best 23.

It's a bit disappointing thought that we appeared happy to concede that game.
P
Bulls up.. Brumbies playing set piece in 10s .sigh.

Yeah - that's not journalism, that's propaganda. Whenever they've shown the side that people are sitting on they seem to be have a ball.

Yeah - I think the intent of that article was pretty much to support that exact change.
